Staff infection
John, I tested positive for mercer. They figured I picked it up on the job. I am exposed to alot of nasty germs and the doctor said it wouldn't be surprising if I picked it up again. I work with money all day long in the bank. They don't make bactroban for the nostrials anymore. Well in a way they do. They couldn't get mine before surgery since it was only a day away when the test came in. But my surgen said not to stress it cause it wasn't in the blood stream. It shows up in the nostrils but can be transfered to open wounds. Since they are going to put you on high antibiotics during surgery it really isn't no worry. Now the drug you need is mupirocin ointment. You will find the pharmacies can't located the bactroban you have been prescribed. They don't carry this anymore. You will put this on a cue tip and rub it around the inside of each nostril i believe twice a day for 5 days.
I literally almost freaked out when they told me I had this flesh eating disease i heard all these horrah stories about. But honestly there are different strains and unless you have a very week immune system or have aids or are very elderly your chances are slim of it being a complecation. My doctor informed a large part of the population carries this and never knows they have it unless something comes up or they are tested. My hospital at Pitt just started testing for it 4 months ago. Funny thing is only two orderly's dressed for it when they came into my room to take me for my swallow test and the last day I was there they made my girlfriend who had been with me the whole time but on a paper gown and gloves. Go figure.
