Having a party...

Hey Jennifer -

I have suffered from severe clinical depression for years. I do think that major surgery is a stressor to start with, when you add the "loss" of our old friend/enemy comfort eating. It can mess with your head. I agree w/many of the other poster, get busy and get moving. Both seem to help. The reason I say get moving, is that the exercise will help lift the depression and it will make you feel better about what you are doing.

I think it's kind of hard when we realize that these changes we are making are "for real." For me, I think it got somewhat better when I realized that while I was make huge changes, it didn't mean I wouldn't be able to eat out any more or go to parties, I just have to make adjustments. Whenever, I'm having a hard time with it. I start listing the reasons I did this ... and remember that you already have 16 successes ... It really is such a head game. I think that the surgery gives us a tool to use to get this weight off and while we are doing that we have the time and opportunity to get our heads around the "head hunger" and change the bad habits we've lived with for so many years.

Remember that you are doing well.

All the best,

Barb

Thanks Barb... I do appreciate your comments.  It really helps to talk to people who have "been there and done that" and not to think I am on an island.   Thanks again!!

I was depressed for my entire 2nd month after surgery.  It was only really bad the first week of that month though.  It took me the entire month to get back on my feet mentally.  From what I read that's fairly common and is your body's way of trying to compensate for it's loss of food intake.  It'll figure out sooner or later that it's okay and you'll feel better. Take care. Ellen

Thanks Ellen.  :)  I hope this will pass too.. I do not want to ever have to depend on medication for depression again.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Don't forget too that you have tons of hormones coursing thru your body now.  That may be contributing to the feelings.
