The way I understand it... the band keeps the exit opening of the new pouch from stretching out in time.. Thus you don't get as hungry later on down the road. Helps food to stay in longer after time and use stretches that opening out. I may have missunderstood. I plan to have one.....IF MY TURN EVER Comes. Myrtis

Welcome to OH!!! I had RNY in 2002 but no band. I would ask the doc about that. I wasn't on a liquid diet before surgery either and had no problem afterwards. Best of luck on Tuesday, keep us updated! I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

"Don't count the moments but make the moments count!!"
You are having an RNY w/ a fobi pouch. It's a band around your where you new intestine and pouch meet. I think Dr Bauman is about the only one in the Charlotte area that does that. It's not the normal lap band. I have seen a lot of RNY patients having revisions where they are putting the lap-band over the pouch for those who have gained weight. So there is a big difference in the fobi pouch band and the lap-band. As for the liquid diet each doc has their on choice in what they want. The 2 weeks helps shrink your liver, keeps your bowels cleaned out and soft, and helps jump start your weight loss. Some doc have you cleanse yourself a day or so before the surgery. I think it all works and I really think it's just want your doc wants to work with. :) Welcome!!! Good Luck on your surgery!!!!! You will do GREAT!
