Update on Annie

I spoke with Annie this morning. She came through the surgery very well. Dr. Farrel was very pleased that her liver was so small and he had plenty of room to perform the procedure.

Annie said that waking after the surgery was a little un-nerving for her. She said that the care she got in recovery was great. She's not so happy about the care she's had since she was moved to her room. Apparently the staff doesn't know how to adjust her bed and didn't have any pillows for her or Lee. She said neither she or Lee were able to get much sleep last night. Her nurse gave her insulin and meds at 7am and then the new nurse that came on wanted to give them to her again at 8 am. Thank goodness Annie was on the ball and let them know she wasn't taking the meds again. Later the same nurse asked Annie to stand and left her bare in the back ... he didn't do anything to assure her modesty ... I think that might upset the best of us ... not very nice. Then, he left her sitting "perched" on the edge of a chair for quite a while ... not too comfortable when you've just had surgery. When she went down for the barium swallow, they left her standing for an extended time while the radiologist was setting up. Luckily there was someone there that had gastric bypass a few years ago and she recognized that Annie was about to collapse, so she got her a chair.

She's also concerned because when I spoke with her a little while ago, she still hadn't gone for a walk since her surgery. She's going to ask someone to assist her as soon as Lee gets back to her room.

I am hoping that her experience improves significantly from here on out. She's going to have a private duty nurse tonight, so hopefully she and Lee will be able to get some much needed rest.

She wants me to thank you for all of your prayers and well-wishes. She said that it means more than you know.

Wishing Annie a much gentler recovery period,

Barb

For lack of a better way of putting it... It sucks that she is getting such shotty care.  I would ask for a nurse manager.  One of the big pluses with my whole experience was the high level of hospital care I received.  I hate it that Annie is getting the shaft here.

Don't know what happened to my last post.  I was saying that I was happy that Annie is doing so well in spite of her sub-par care.  Hopefully the private nurse will help ease that burden.

Glad to hear all went well..But she needs to speak with a head nurse or manager.. her care right now is unacceptable and i hope and pray that the care she gets tonight from the private nurse will be a world of help for her... Blessings and sending "healing vibes her way"

And here she was so concerned about the procedure itself, when it's the care that is the scariest part for her. Our poor friend. Hope things go better for her. Thanks, Barb. Mare

Update I am still in the hospital. It has been a little more rough than I expected. Surgery went very well but after care has been unbelivable. Barb told you about the insulin and being over exposed ect.. which was very uncomfortable. The worst part was the bariactric bed was too big for me. I have not slept since surgery I slept a few hours last night in a recliner very uncomfortable. I had to raise hell to get a regular bed which I finally got this afternoon. I have napped on and off this afternoon. Feeling better and am walking. I am working on clear liquids and it is tough. I am not hungery at all and have to sip slow. I might get to go home tomorrow. Very happy I did this but it is no walk in the park. Thank you for your concern and well wishes.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

Hey Annie -

I have tried to reach you at the hospital, but whenever I call they say you are not there. I'll try again.

I'm so sorry that you are having such a difficult time at the hospital. I'm glad that you are doing the things you need to do to take care of yourself. Just remember that it really does get easier from here.

You are in my thought's and prayers.

Warmest regards to you and Lee,

Barb
