sugar question

This one has me baffled.........on the nutrition label, some things have sugars listed as say 2, then above it will give a sugar alcohol of say, 5.  Can I put an umbrella in this or what????????  Somethings I would buy because sugar is 0, but then sugar alcohol is 7 or something.  Anyone?   nancy

you divide the "sugar alcohol" by two to get the actual sugar level. So if it says it has 2, plus a sugar alcohol of 5, the actual total sugar intake would be 4.5 grams of sugar.
