Hair Loss
I had my surgery April 16th, and in the past 3 weeks I have noticed a lot of hair loss. I don't like this! I have a feeling it is coming from the fact that I have been throwing up A LOT!! I usually throw up one meal a day & I am probably only getting about 30 grams of protein a day. Does anyone have any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else and if so, what did you do? I don't want to loose my hair. Thank heavens its thick & in good health, but I can only loose so much more before it starts to show. Any vitamins I can take? HELP!!!!!! I wash my hair & just cry at the amount that comes out in my hands. Any suggestions, I need something to try. I am trying so hard to eat slower so that I want throw up as much. I laugh at myself, by the time I get done eating, my food is cold!!!

Hi Gina!! I know exactly how you feel. I have extremely curly & extremely thick hair. Once mine started falling out, I thought it was nice because I had always wanted less than I had. But it kept falling out & I got to the point you are at now. I was afraid it wouldn't stop & even if it did, I was afraid I wouldn't get back what I lost.
As of July 6, I am now 3 years out from surgery & I can tell you that it will get better, but it does take time. My hair has grown back and I have more curls now than I ever have. Really the only suggestion that I have is to try & find a protein drink or powder that you like & start drinking one or two a day. I found a powder called Amplify at GNC & mixed it with 2% milk. It tasted just like chocolate milk. It took me a long time to be able to get in enough protein with food alone. I actually had my 3 year check up on 7-19-07 & my protein is a little low again.
Good luck & keep us posted on your progress.

I'm pre-op but was losing hair by the fistful and the doc said try biotin. I thought it was funny when I went to my support group and this came up... almost all the women were told to take biotin after surgery! Better hope it works... or I'm gonna be bald!
I've been taking it for 6 months and my hair stopped falling out and has even grown back in!!!! Found it at... Wal*Mart! I agree with the previous post about finding a protein shake to supplement. Good luck.

is biotin a vitamin/supplement? Never heard of it. thank you so much for the suggestion! As much as I hate going into a Walmart, I will RUN there when I get off work today & pick me up some. I hate to sound vain, but I don't want to go bald or even end up with bald spots. I guess I'm just going to have to hold my nose & start drinking those yucky protein shakes!! I'm just so freaking picky in my eating habits!! Thank you again!!

Have you contacted your surgeon about the issues you are having?
Protein is what will help to stop your hair from falling out... a lot of people experience it and it is normal but proper nutrition is what will help it not be so bad.
Biotin *may* help but it will not give you miracles... protein is what you really need to focus on!
