insurance question
Hey Everyone,
I joined the group a few weeks ago and posted a question regarding insurance. I have another one about insurance (insurance approval is the only way I"ll be able to have the surgery).
My weight has fluctuacted over the past 5 years. My BMI is just over 40 now and has in the past 4 years hovered around 37-39. I have no other weight history than the the past 5 years. I am at my largest now. I have no known co morbidities. Is GERD considered a co morbidity? My doctor did not go so far as to say that I have GERD but she did prescribe Protonix for my symptoms. She also wrote in her letter (letter of medical necessity) that I had symptoms of gastro esophageal relux and an overactive bladder.
I have State Health Plan BCBS Blue Options. I haven't submitted to insurance yet.
Thanks for any help.
Tammy
Hi Tammy,
I also have BCBS, and my BMI dipped to around 37-38 within the 5 years. (I was at 43.3 at surgery). Blue Cross had no problems with this, in fact I was approved in 1 day! I think as long as you don't go below 35, you are O.K. That has been my observation anyway.
Best of Luck to you, and Welcome to the NC boards!

My BMI did dip below 40 on the doctor charts I sent in and I was denied. I am now appealing and getting together my diet histories from Jenny Craig and Weigh****chers showing prior to dr. visit BMI was 40 or more. So try to gather any info that shows proof of dieting or your BMI at or above 40 otherwise they might deny you.
