Hi Everyone!! I've been a lurker here for a few months.  I've just finished all my pre-op testing and the surgeon's office is sending in my packet to BCBS for approval.  Does anyone else here have any experience with BCBS of NC Federal Employee Program?  I'm a little worried.  I have weights for 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2007.  I'm missing 2005 and 2006!!  I'm sending in pictures, but I'm still worried that it won't be enough!!  I have no co-morbidities, but my BMI is high, close to 60.  Has anyone else been approved missing this information?  Thanks!!

Hi there and welcome to the boards. I had BCBS and I only had to have 5 years and they didn't have to be consecutive. There were many times when my weight was not the required 40 BMI so naturally I didn't send those years in. Relax. Sounds like you have done what was needed. My approval was less than one week. Good luck and keep us posted. Lisa

By the way,  Village Surgical is awesome and Cape Fear did an excellent job in surgical aftercare. I used Davidson and my experience has been really good so far. No complications. I am learning how to use my new tool.  Lisa

Thanks for the encouragement!!  It's nice to be able to touch base with someone who has been through the same process.  I'll post how it goes once I hear back from the insurance company.  How far out was your surgery scheduled once you had approval from the insurance company?  I'm trying to get an idea of the timeframe to make sure I have arrangements in order for the kids when they go back to school and when I will be taking leave from work.  Thanks again for your help.

Hi, a little late on my post sorry!  I had BCBS NC Federal also but I had my surgery almost 5 years ago...  I was over 50 bmi and didn't have all my history either.  I don't know where Lumberton is but I went to ECU/Brody School of Medicine in Greenville (Dr Kenneth McDonald) and he was wonderful!  Anyway, good luck and keep us posted!

Sorry, I can't help you on the time frame but am guessing about a month from when you have your last consult with the doctor. I held mine off until I was out of school. I teach. Anyhow, I believe I had approval back in March and went in to schedule surgery in late May...planned on having surgery in June but couldn't get in until July 2nd. Anyhow, my guess is a few weeks to a months time.  Lisa

Thanks Lisa!  I will call the office Monday and check in with Donna.  She may be able to give me a time frame.  Thanks to everyone for replying.  I'm just getting a little anxious, I think.  I'll post any news I hear!!
