Welcome to the North Side estherd!!!
I have BCBS and it took them less than a week to make determination in my case. It might have even taken less time if it weren't for the 4th of July holiday. I can tell you besides the normal things that they look for (i.e., cardiology, GI, and nutrition), they also require a full psychiatric evaluation. My first letter submitted was from a psychiatrist who just made a recommendation saying I would be an appropriate candidate for bariatric surgery and they rejected it saying they needed a full psych eval. I hope that helps. Best of luck to you for a speedy approval and congratulations on your decision to have surgery. It will be a wonderful life changing event! Let us know if you have any other comments or questions. You will see, you can ask just about anything here. Take care!
Thank you!
I am so grateful for people like you, that help me along. I will make sure my psychiatric evaluation is documented correctly. Thank you again. I wrote you a message also, earlier before I saw this post, and I was saying cant believe you need to lose weight, you look great!!
love,

Hi Esther!
I post on here all the time, as my doc is in Concord NC.
A recommendation about BCBS. Call the phone number on the back of your card and get connected to a customer service rep. Get her name and extension, tell her what you are hoping to do, and ask for her help. Get her to walk you thru everything. Then call her on a regular basis and build a friendship. I have BCBS IL and I did this. Deborah was fantastic and totally in my corner. From time to time, paperwork can get misplaced at the ins co, and having a friend on the inside makes a huge difference. I had someone write me just yesterday that she had done this and she had gotten approved. Good luck!
