And I'm SO NERVOUS!  Please tell me this is normal.  I've never had surgery of any kind prior to this...I keep thinking about what will happen if I don't wake up.    Wondering who will take care of my husband and son...ack!! For those of you who've had the surgery, how did you get those thoughts out of your head (if you had them!?)  I've been trying to keep myself busy by working, but I'm still a bit freaked out. Thanks for listening! Amy

Amy, this is allllllllll to wierd, you live right around the corner and we've got the same date!!! Small world.  Best of luck to you Thursday!!  I've had several surgeries and I've always worried about the wake up thing. I've never heard of anyone not waking up, so rest assured.  Just keep thinking that I told you, "apprehension is the worst part of it".  Nancy

Hi Amy - That's a fear of mine also. I have only been under general once for a simple procedure and am still scared! All will be well, you'll do fine. Try and distract yourself with thoughts of your skinny self! LOL Stike a pose!

Amy- I have shared this philosophy before. I used to work for the Anesthiologists doing pre-op surgical clearance. By the time Thur rolls around- you will be exhausted- shopping, planning meals for family, planning your liquids post op, cleaning the house, dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's- soooo when it's time for surgery just think of anesthsia as a REALLY GOOD NAP! You sleep really well and when you wake up, you don't remember any of it. I used to fight to wake up quickly in the recovery room- now it's LEAVE ME ALONE-can't you see I'm napping?!? It's all a matter of preception! So Amy-  enjoy your much deserved nap and see ya on the loser's bench! Sheila

I am a work in progress and I am committed to progress with the work ahead of me.....

Thanks so much ladies.  Nancy-we definitely need to get together!  I can't believe we live SO CLOSE!  I need to send you my phone #. Darcie-thank you!  Maybe it's the *not knowing* part that scares me the most.  Fear of the unknown and all that good stuff.  LOL  Can't wait to get together sometime!! Wendy-thanks!  I do have visions of a skinnier me dancing in my head, that's for sure!  Sheila-wow!  Thank you!  Great advice and I will definitely follow it.  I'm already exhausted and I still have tomorrow to get through.  LOL  Thankfully, my husband helped me out and cleaned up the house today.  We're leaving tomorrow evening to spend the night in Fayetteville since we have to be @ the hospital @ 5:30 am.  I'm sure I'll be looking forward to my *nap* by then! Thank you again!

Amy,      Just rest assured that everyone is right. You will be fine. I remember them putting an IV in and all and then the next thing I remember was being in recovery. It was all relatively easy. Amy, if you would like, tell me your last name (in a PM if you prefer) and perhaps I can get by to say hello!

I think that some degree of nervousness is completely normal.  My faith and prayer carried me through the whole ordeal.  I was not nervous at all the day of surgery.  I just wanted to get it over with.

Amy,

I was a bit nervous too before as the only operation I’d ever had was having my tonsils out.  But I realized that if I didn’t have the operation I was definitely going to die as opposed to there only being a possibility.  To me the benefits of what I was doing just outweighed (no pun intended) the possible negatives of having the surgery.  You’ve already come this far, and believe it or not, you’ve already made peace with the decision to have the surgery.  Just try to focus on the good being better, by far, than the bad…because it is good, I can at least attest to that much.

Joe
