Weight Loss is Not a Competiton

Hey all, I haven't posted for a while, I know.  I have noticed that whenever I post my weight loss, and proudly so, that there are those that love to come a long right behind me and claim they lost more.  I tested this theory with my neighbor watching and sure enough, the same people claim higher weight loss every SINGLE  time for 2 weeks, even when I posted an erroneous weight loss of almost 20 lbs.  It was very upsetting to me because I work so hard and still have battles to fight within myself.  I come here for support, not a competition.  Therefore I have decided to no longer post my weight here on the forum or discuss my weight loss.  In the end, it really doesn't matter who loses the fastest.  The IMPORTANT thing is that we remain HEALTHY  and support each other and not turn this into a competition.

Diane -

I agree it's not a competition. We do just have to take care of ourselves. I'm sorry that you had such a negative experience.

I hope that you will resume posting. I really miss your encouragement and words of wisdom.

I look forward to seeing you later this week. When you have a few minutes give me a call and we can work out the details.

Your friend,

Barb

Hi Barb, Thank you so much for your kindness and support.  You know I've hit some rough spots lately and how that can be difficult to work through.   I went to my 2nd session at the Christian Counseling Center yesterday.  It has been enormously helpful dealing with my eating disorder and keeping me focused on what is really important.  Being Christian oriented allows me the freedom to comfortably discuss my life from my own Christian perspective.  Being faithful and following God's laws keeps me on track and gives me faith that I will get through this.  Thank you so much for your patience and unending thoughtfulness! To me the most important is reaching the goal you set and KEEPING it... doesnt matter how long it takes you to get there. We all have different amounts bypassed... those with more will naturally lose quicker than those with less.... has nothing to do with the individual... its important to be successful in your own eyes and forget about everybody else!

I think that there will always be ones that have to outdo others.  So what???  I am dang proud of myself everytime I lose even one lb and if I want to shout it from the rooftops or the keyboards then that is what I am going to do!  Be proud of YOURSELF and don't worry so much about what others do or say.  You didn't do this surgery for them ~ you did it for yourself.  It only becomes a competition if you allow it to. You have been a great supporter to many here and letting the negative people drive you away is letting them win.  JMHO. . . Hugs, Donna

Diane,      I agree with you. This is NOT a competition, but there will always be those few that have to inflate themselves by doing better than everyone else. It makes them feel better somehow. I was thinking about this the other day. How I cannot compare my weight loss to anyone else. We are all SO very different and metabolize differently. Don't let these people ruin things for you. Realize they are obviously struggling with their own demons that they have to one-up everyone. You are doing great....and I have no idea how much you've lost.....lol. But, I know you are doing great because you did something quite radical to take control of your health. This is no easy task and anyone that says we have taken the easy road out has NO clue. Continue to post(not your weight loss if you don't wanna) but don't let these people take any joy out of what you have accomplished!

Diane -  Sorry to hear that your feeling like your in a competition. I believe what Donna said, "it's only a competition if you let it be". Maybe when someone saw your posting with your wt. loss they just wanted to share the excitement of theirs too? Anyhow, JMO and wishing you well.
