Introducing Myself

Hi Everyone! This is my first post and I thought I'd use it to introduce myself.  :)  I am a 36 year old mother of one 6 year old boy and wife to a US Marine.  We recently moved to Jacksonville after 5 years in Okinawa, Japan.  We like it here so far. A friend of mine sent me the OH link when I got the referral from my Dr. for a WLS consultation. I'm scheduled for RNY next Thursday the 26th of July.  I've been researching WLS for several years, but never knew I qualified.  When we moved to NC in February and my Dr. here recommended the surgery to me I was shocked someone had actually listened to me & didn't give me the standard "well, you need to take in less calories than you burn off."      Thanks.  I started the pre-testing process in April and received my approval last week. I'm nervous (very nervous!) and excited all at the same time. This has been a great resource to me throughout this journey I've started and I hope to post my own success story someday!  They are all truly inspirational. Amy  :)

Hi Amy, So nice to meet you!  I am new to the site also.  My RNY is scheduled for Monday 7/23.  Hopefully I will be able to give you an update on mine prior to your surgery on Thursday.  If not, I will say a prayer for you on Thursday. Welcome to NC, I think it is a pretty special place to live.  I would also like to thank you for the sacrifices of your family and for your husbands service in the US Marines.  Without him and many others we might not be able to enjoy priveledges like this surgery, as well as, our freedom! I look forward to getting to know you over the coming months! Melinda

Welcome to the boards Amy. I am from Fayetteville although I used a different doctor. I wish you luck with your surgery. Cape Fear was super and did an excellent job for aftercare. I cannot say anything bad about my experience.  Anyhow, don't be a stranger. There is a wealth of info on here. Lisa

Thank you everyone! Melinda-thanks so much for the kind words and well wishes.  I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers on Monday as well. Lisa-maybe one of these times when I'm up your way we could meet for tea (or broth for me! LOL)  My husband's little brother is stationed there, so we visit frequently even when I'm not going to my surgeon's office.  Zlynn-I'll be having my surgery at the Cape Fear Valley Hospital.  I'm hoping and praying things go well.  I've been attending the Jax support group meetings for the past few months and there are a lot of really great people there.  How far are you from here? Barb-thank you.  I appreciate it.  :) Amy

Welcome Amy and good luck on next Thursday.  Those days will fly by.  This board is a great source of support, encouragement and information.  You will even make a few friends here.  :)   And yeah.. getting that approval for WLS is a bit surreal.  At times, I still wonder if I actually had it done.  LOL
