Amber Norris - nutritionist
I posted in the main RNY forum, since it has more traffic, but I was wondering if anyone that's using Fuzz and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has met with their new nutritionist before? I have an appointment with her tomorrow, and I'm just a bit nervous...don't know what to expect!

I met with Amber on Wednesday and she was super nice. I really enjoyed our time together and learned a lot from her already. She never made me feel uncomfortable and was as nice to my husband as she was to me. She encouraged him to come with me to everything so he would know how I would be eating after surgery because he loves to cook and she was giving us tips on how to cook things. I think you will like her a lot. Beth
Wow, once again, I am incredibly impressed with the staff over at Wake Forest. Amber was the sweetest thing, very nice. I was with my mom, and a bit nervous to talk about eating habits and all that with my mom there, simply because I'm not so hot at the healthy eating. But my mom offered before we got checked in to just chill out in the waiting room. That was nice. :D
The body machine thing wasn't working, so I don't know my healthy fat percentage to unhealthy, etc, but I know my target weight, the target amount of proteins post op, and she gave me some awesome recommendations on things I should work on changing before the operation. Cutting down on caffeine, no sugar ice cream ideas, etc. So yeah, another great experience with the WF staff. Jeff Smith, Amber, Fuzz, Susan, they're all awesome!

Emily,
I am glad you had such a positive experience today. You are right ~ the team assembled over there is just out of this world. Susan even called me at home one week after surgery to check up on me because she said I hadn't called her and she wanted to make sure I was doing o.k.!!! And Fuzz gave me the o.k. over the phone to return to work on Monday and then he faxed over a note to my employer so that I wouldn't have to make a special trip back to WF Baptist to pick it up!! That way I don't have to wait till my 3 week post op appt before returning to work. He just wanted to make sure I wasn't having any problems before he released me (I'm not ~ everything is going really great!). They are all wonderful, easy to talk to, and really know their stuff. I know that I made the right choice by going with Dr. Fuzz. In fact, while I was in the hospital, my hubby stated that he wished Fuzz was a general practioner (he's been looking for a new one for some time now)!! He said that he would go to him in a heartbeat. Just remember, the hard part of the journey starts now ~ all the waiting!!! It will seem to take forever to get insurance approval and a date but it is well worth the wait. Are you coming to the support group meeting next week?
Hugs,
Donna

Congratulations on being one week+ out of surgery. Looks like you're melting away.
I've been reading your blog, and I'm so happy to hear that the excellent patient care continues postop. Also, that's awesome that you haven't had any problems after the surgery. I know it's a tough journey, but knowing one more person who's a patient of Fuzz is doing good keeps me optimistic in general.
I actually saw Fuzz today before me and Amber had our appointment. He was heading out for lunch and stopped to say hello when he saw my mother and I out in the waiting room, the same time Amber had arrived. I would definitely use Fuzz as a general practitioner too! Right now, my endocrinologist (also at Wake Forest, Dr. Cantley, who's freakin awesome too!) is my main doctor, since I see him 1-2 times a year.
I'm a bit confused as to what all will happen from here...My family and I pretty much know our insurance won't cover more than 5, maybe 10% of the cost. So we're getting our finances arranged, and my parents are working on a line of credit with our bank. So we know we still want Susan to get all the forms sent into the company, but I'm sort of anxious, and want to get started asap!
I really really hope it doesn't take too long for Susan to get the papers sent...I'm taking a semester off in school this fall for the surgery, and would hate for it to be November or December before everything happens!
I haven't been able to come to the support groups except for the main seminar. My family lives about an hour away from WF, and the gas to and from all of these appointments is really adding up. So I hope to make it, to at least a few meetings, but it's hard to know right now when that will be.
