I have a question!!
Hi Guys..
I am home and doing pretty well. Last night I ran a very low grade fever (around 99) and felt very tired but I just chalked that up to the 2 hour ride home yesterday. My pain is not bad at all... (Compared to a C-section this pain is very minimal)..
Anyway. I have a question. It seems that right now the only things I can tolerate are sugar free popscicles and water. I tried some protien drink in the hospital and it made me nauseous. But even when I take in a sip or two of water my new stomach feels kind of icky. Does this sound familiar? I know that I am only 3 days post op.. but I just wanted your feedback.
Thanks for all of your support, advice and encouragement. I really apprecaite it!
Hi Jennifer,
I think that is common. Even now, my tummy still feels a bit icky when I drink my protein or when I eat and sometimes even when I drink water. I don't know how long it takes to completely heal up. Maybe some of the vetrans could let us know. Just drink it slow, but try and get that protein in if at all possible.

Hey Jenn. Glad you made it home and are doing well. Sorry you are having pouch issues. Sometimes first thing in the morning, my pouch feels somewhat icky, especially if I drink water before having my protein shake. I think it is just because it hasn't had anything in it for several hours. Does this icky feeling last for a while or does it go away pretty quickly? Are you not able to eat anything at all other than the sf popsicles? I don't know what kind of diet your surgeon sent you home on (mine was pureed and full liquids) but I know that I cannot stand the taste of any of the protein drinks that I have tried. The only thing I have found that works for me is to take a packet of chocolate Carn. Instant Breakfast NSA and add 8 oz. fat free skim milk and 1 scoop of Unjury unflavored protein powder and mix it all up in my Magic Bullet. It is not thick or gritty at all and tastes kind of like chocolate milk. It has 33 grams of protein for an 8 oz shake so I think that is pretty good. Could you maybe try that and see if it works for you. If you continue to feel icky and can't eat, call your surgeon's office and see what they say. Don't let yourself get dehydrated!! Hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon!
Hugs,
Donna

Hey Donna~
I cannot have Carnation Instant Breakfast. My doc does not allow it. He said that he was not concerned about my protien this week.. just that I stayed hydrated. The feeling comes and goes. It seems that when I drink anything that it feels yucky. And to be honest, I guess that should be expected because everything is still healing.
I cannot do pureed until week 3. I can go to full liquids Monday.. but they only want me taking in no more than two ounces at a time.
Thanks for your help.
Hiya! I had some issues with liquids and finally tried drinking warm liquids. (Thank you to whoever posted this on the boards, it's a lifesaver!) I drink decaf tea, also, I know it sounds wierd, but I fix a 32 mug with warm water out of the tap, drink mix (like one sleeve of Walmart brand mix) and some Benefiber. The orange and grape flavors sit best for me as warm.
Some can't handle cold stuff, some can't handle warm. just depends.
So you may want to try that.
Hey Jenn,
I'm glad things went well with your surgery, I was thinkin about you! I know that icky feeling and it's normal, take it slow! I had to sip water along with my protein drink for a little bit. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Sheryl... I know that some ickiness was to be expected.. LOL but I wanted some feedback from the Pros here! I think I did okay yesterday. I got down 8 ounces of protein shake and about 20 ounces of water. I am going to try and up that a bit today (at least the water part).. My doc said not to worry about protein as much as hydration this week... I have to aim for 48 ounces, which right now seems impossible.
Jenn, yeah get tha****er in, sip sip sip! 8 oz of protein is good that first week. I remember feeling like I couldn't take another sip for a while... Take your time girl and keep up the great work!!!!
