Tomorrow is week 3 post op update
Hey guys. The last time I posted I was not feeling great but I have turned the corner. I start on pureed food tomorrow. YES, I need some more choices. I officially hate jello.
I have felt better the last few days and even managed to paint my living room and hall. I feel like I have energy now. The protein is the trick. I am not getting it all in. I'm lucky if I get 30 g. I know how important it is and everyday I say today is the day I get it all in but so far, no luck. The doc. said keep trying and maybe with adding pureed meat (that sounds gross) I'll pack some more in.
Good luck to all the new losers coming over this week.

Hi Jennifer,
Was wondering how you have been. I get to add the meat etc. on Thursday. I have been having soups mainly and oatmeal in the morning. However, I do feel pretty good. Have you tried those liquid protein vials? That seems to be the only way I can get that darn protein in! They are kind of sweet but I can take it since it is only like three or four sips. I got mine at the Vitamin Shoppe. They have 42g. and I do like half in the early am and then half later. I keep saying I will do another half later but usually fall short. Just think this may be a way for you to get some more protein there. Right now, my weight is at a little stall. I don't know. I guess it will start again here soon. Going to try and get some exercise in here. Well, keep us posted.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better. I was sent home from the hospital on a pureed diet and it is pretty gross. I have found that sticking with mostly soups, cottage cheese, and stuff like that is working well for me. I'm not getting in my required protein per day either (59 grams) but everyday I'm getting closer and closer. I think I'm going to trial some of that protein from Vitamin World that Lisa suggested. I have heard a lot of people say that is the only way they can get in their protein. Anyways, just wanted to say hang in there. We will get the hang of this soon (I hope)! Hugs, Donna

Hi Jennifer. I'm so glad you're feeling better. I'm not sure I could have painted my living room at 3 weeks post op, way to go. Just don't overdo it, k?
It does get easier getting the protein in. The vials help early out, they don't taste great, but they go down easy enough. I still have them around in case I have a day that I don't get enough in. I have found that I do better on protein shakes. Each of us is different in that regard. My doctor doesn't recommend protein supplementation, he prefers us to get our protein in with food. I think because that forces us to eat good food if we're going to get the protein in. I have just found that I simply cannot eat that much food in my day. So I supplement.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Take care.

Hello all,
I've found a pretty good supplement at Vitamin Shoppe. It's called Lean Body, it comes in vanilla ice cream or chocalate ice cream. It's a hi-protein milk shake, it's a 17 ounce container, has 40gm protein, 9gm carbs, no sugars and 260 calories per container. Of course, I can't drink it at one sitting but it does help round out the protien through the day. It's $3.19 each and they do sell them by the case for little discount.
