anyone use Dr. Mitchell in Pinehurst, NC?

Ive been coming on this board for over a year, and I have not seen more than 3 of his patients. Anyone out there use him? Steve Que

Hi Steve!  I am a Dr Mitchell patient!!  From what I see, Dr. Mitchell's community doesn't see to be very active online community.  Their Yahoo Group isn't that active either.  Glad to meet another Dr. Mitchell patient!! Candice

Glad you meet YOU too! Dr. Mitchell's patients are NOT active,,, at all!!! And the funny thing is some(a lot actually) of his patients are not knowledgeable,,, at all about the surgery, their health, expectations, etc. Sad, isnt it? Steve Que

You know, I am really finding that is the case with a lot of people.  I don't know how they got passed Dr. Weiner because she gave me hell.  Every bit of my knowledge has come from listening to several info sessions, online research, support groups and the community here.   I was really looking for a fun community of patients of his and had no luck in finding them.

I'm a pt of Dr. Mitchell. I had my surgery 03/02/06. I have lost 120 pounds. The yahoo  board usually has some posts every day. The amount varies. I am also active with the Pinehurst support group. Belinda

Candee, there just flat out are NOT many. Like I said,, I think that most people from these parts just dont know much about the INTERNET,, much less a online, informational chat group. For the most part, they just arent interested. Go figure. I asked Mitchell about it,, and HE said HE doesnt put too much into "these boards". Hell,, it was my main option of doing research, contacting past patients, and surgeon evaluations!! Weiner gave you trouble? Well,, when I went to see her, she was VERY casual. She told me that MOST of these patients have emotional, psychological, or unreasonable expectations about this surgery. She was talking about rny. But she gave me NO trouble.  Steve Que

Steve, I think you are being very judgemental about the folks in and around Pinehurst. It not responsible to lump everyone together. I look at, but don't often post on the message boards on obesity help. I found the smaller yahoo group with pts specific to Dr. Mitchell more useful to answer questions early on. Now that I'm over a year out I try to share my wisdom there. Dr Mitchell's protocol for RNY is quite different than most things I see on here. I also find the in-person support a great place to share experiences.  I  do not think most pts have unreasonable expectations. Dr Weiner's  job is to weed out those who are not properly prepared or ready phychologically. Depression issues before surgery can compound post op. I think we each have our own experiences pre and post op.

you have a right to your opinion, as I have a right to mine. While doing MY research, I found that most of his patients, in fact, do NOT know that there is informational boards out there. I also found that most DO NOT participate in that support group.  I like Dr Mitchell myself. Believe me, if I didnt like him, or didnt think he was a damn good surgeon, then I wouldnt have let him cut on me.

If you find that judgmental, then so be it.
