Only three days to go!!!!
Good morning everyone!!! Well, only 3 more days to go before the BIG day!!!! I am so excited I can't hardly stand myself. I had a minor panic attack last night after going to bed just thinking about how different everything will be this time next week and wondering how I am going to do with the actual surgery and then eating afterwards!! Mostly I am just excited though and can't wait!!! This has been such a long and emotional journey for me and to realize that my time is finally here is just overwhelming sometimes!!! Y'all keep me in your prayers please!!!
I do have a question for those that are post op. I have been pondering on whether or not to take a comfy gown and robe with me or just use the hospital gowns. I know I will be having some friends come by the hospital to visit and I just want to be comfortable and not look too grungy but not sure if it's feasible to take my own stuff or just use the hospital's. Any advice???
Thanks guys!
Hugs,
Donna

Hi Donna,
I wish you good luck with your surgery and a speedy recovery.
As for gowns and robes I ordered a few things from Woman Within but from other OH memebers everyone says use the gowns in the hospital.
If you get some new gowns save them for home.
I am going to take my new bathrobe with me.
Good Luck.
Annie
Hi Donna,
Yes, your time is almost here. I know you are both excited and nervous. I actually bought pj's but never felt good enough to change into them actually, so I just stayed in my hospital gown. I have used my pj's since I got home as it is more comfortable. I live in the country so I walk when I can in what is comfortable for me. I did actually dress to come home but was quite uncomfortable (the bra). I don't know how others felt about that. I actually ditched it in the car and felt better. The shower when I got home was great.
There will be some rough days, but each day is easier and easier. I am 5 days out now. Certainly no expert but feel better each day. Just remember that everyone's system reacts differently to the change so don't expect anything set if that makes sense. Just deal with your body day by day. I have found that to be a help. I get so much valuable info on here and everyone's experiences help me understand the process though.
I hope that you have a successful surgery. The change we are making will be so worth it in the end. It just takes time.

I would say just wear the hospital gown. You will have an IV and it's not worth messing with it trying to get pj's and night gowns on and off. Bring some croc type shoes to help grip when you get up to walk, I didn't have crocs at the time but I did have slip ons. Also, bring some small entertainment things, puzzle books, magazines, an ipod or something to drown out the noise in the back ground.
They will be checking you all day and night so you will be woken frequently. I remember the first day my throat was so sore from the tubes that I didn't want to talk with anyone and I could only have the flavored swabs of water for the first 24 hours.
Also, use the pain medicine, you need it and that's why its there for. Mostly, good luck and relax. I know it's hard not to be nervous. You are in great hands.

Please send me an email if you have any questions. Also bring something loose for the ride home, stretch pants or pj pants you will be bloated and swollen.
