Pureed foods - help needed

Ok, I'm getting myself worked up in a panic about the next stage, pureed foods.  My nutritionist really thinks that the Stage 1 baby food is the best choice.  I get turned off everytime I think of baby food.  Any good suggestions an what ya'll did at this phase?   Mary Pat

Maybe put regualr food in the blender, that is what I plan on at least for my veggies.  My Nut also said not to blend meat, stick to the baby food.  Maybe if you mix the meat with mashed potatoes it will taste better. I will be on mushies next week, so we will see!  I have been thinking the same things. Lori

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions.  I go back to work on Monday and was really concerned about introducing new foods and especially in the pureed stage. Mary Pat

I have not had surgery but.... I was at the family dollar store and they have canned hormel roast beef. The salt in it was a little high but other than that nutritionaly it looked ok. It is already ground up a little but a quick spin in the bullet and nuked a little it is quite good and I would imagine it would be great over a little mashpotatoes. It comes in a small can so there would be little waste.  It says 2 servings but after wls it would prob. be 4 or more. To me it taste good but people say after wls your taste changes for a while. Just a suggestion. Myrtis

When I started on soft foods these are the things that the nutriontist with my program suggests ... Start w/high protien soft foods like, eggs, light/low-fat yogurt, flakey fish, crab, shrimp, tuna, fork tender meats/poultry, ground meats, beans and lentils, low-fat deliy meats thinly sliced, low-fat cottage cheese, shredded or soft skim cheeses, tofu. Other foods include oatmeal, chream of wheat, soft cooked vegi's that can be fork mashed, soft fruits w/o skins, crackers/toast (chewed well), low-fat strained soups, and soft lettuce like green, red leaf or bib (no iceberg).

They also want me to be sure to avoid AVOID Sticky foods - like bread, sticky rice, pasta, mac'n'cheese, melted stringy cheeses, and peanut butter ... Crunchy Foods -  like raw vegi's, skins, nuts, seeds, popcorn, chips, cocnut and iceberg lettuce... Tough & Rubbery foods - like tough meats, steak, pork, ham, hot dogs and High Fats - like butter, salad dressings, full fat sour cream, cream cheese, mayo, & gravy, bacon, sausages, whole milk, whole milk cheeses, fried foods, processed meats (balogna, salami), chips and desserts.

I'm supposed to only try one new food at a time, so that if I have a problem with something, I'll be able to isolate it.

I have been able to add quite a few things to my "pantry" of foods I can eat that don't make me sick. I have found that the key for me is to go slowly and chew very, very well.

I hope that helps some.

Barb

- Yogurt - frozen shrimp pureed in a blender (tastes like shrimp salad) - boneless skinless chicken breasts cooked in slow cooker/crock pot over nite with cream of chick with herb soup - pureed, tastes like chicken and dumplins

- ricotta or cottage cheese with a spoonful of marinara and some mozzarella heated in microwave - london broil pureed

- boneless skinless chicken breasts cooked in slow cooker/crock pot over nite with a tomato based italian sauce and pureed, then melt mozzarella on top - I always added protein powder to my oatmeal to bump up the protein intake do a search (go to the top of the page - make sure to click the OH link beside the Web link) and type in puree and you should get some hits with more info. Good luck! Robin
