Endoscopy tomorrow

Having my endoscopy tomorrow morning at Pitt County Memorial(part of the work ups). I am a bit nervous about how awake I'll be for this procedure. I am a total baby and had thought that I'd be out cold. Wishful thinking or so I am told. Some one I know had one done and they were awake!*yikes* Drugged up but awake.  Can you guys tell me what to expect? I understand what they will do to me but I want to know from the patient point of view. How long was the procedure? Those kinds of things. Your awareness level, etc. Thanks, Linda

Hey Linda, I have never had one of those done but my Mom has and I was with her.   They pretty much put her all the way out.  She didn't remember anything about the procedure (and she is a big baby too!!).  When they let me go back to see her afterwards, she was so loopy!!!  The entire procedure took less than an hour if I remember correctly.  Good luck to you and sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. I've had 2 and was out cold.  They don't keep you awake during it.  Just tell them your nervous. I remember seening a series of needles and then waking up on a hospital bed going towards my room.

I had mine on June 8th.  I am allergic to the medication they use to knock you out, so I did not take it.  But.. this was a breeze.  They numb your throat.  I watched the whole thing.  I could even feel it tickling in my tummy.   Honestly.. It was so easy.

Hi Linda - I haven't had one and they don't require me to. I just wanted to say good luck tomorrow. We'll all be thinking about you. Will be looking for your post. Mare And Jennifer H - The whole "feeling it tickling your tummy" scares me a little. Must've been a very strange sensation...especially watching. You're braver than I would be. ;O)

Hi Linda, I had this procedure as apart of my work-up also, and I was so nervous, the hardest part to me was swallowing the numbing medicine, mostly because I hate that feeling, but after the series of medicines to calm you, I was out like a light, I did not even realize that a hour had past, it was like a really good nap.  Try not get worked up, it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, I feared the thought of something going down my throat, I did not even feel a thing.   I hope this ease you worries a little......You will be fine.... Hi Linda!  I'm having an Endoscopy at Pitt County on Wednesday! Good luck!!!!!!  I had one there before (back in 1997 when I was banded).  They gave me a drug called Versed which I didn't remember any of the procedure.  I think I may have told my doctor that I loved him.  LOL!

You'll do great!  Let us know how it goes!  I'll be thinking of you!
