i had my RNY done at duke. no problems at all. they may require more tests than other centers (i don't know) but their mortality rate is also lower than other centers. i sorta thought that was a good thing! i surely wouldn't judge the entire center because someone says the office staff was frazzled and less than polite at one point. i've seen the heat that office staff takes from some of their high-maintenance patients. i'd never be able to do that job! i don't know if you can choose your surgeon at duke. i think dr. demaria  takes the more complicated cases (high start weights, serious co-morbidities, etc.)  i gained weight between my first appt and surgery and it was a non-issue.
