I have yet another question...

Ok, so I'm actually back up to 302...which I will admit, especially after my pat on the back post of this past Sunday, is a bit embarrassing and kind of annoying.  Although, I guess the way that I’ve been losing lately, it’s not really unexpected.  I lose a few one day go up a little less the next day, hang out there for a few days and then start the process over.

The silver lining is that for some reason I decided to try on a pair of 44 jeans I bought last week, without trying them on, and they fit.  This blows my mind because when I started this whole thing I was straining the seams of 60’s.  I really can’t describe the joy of not having to shop at the “fatty” store any more…other’s may know it as the Casual Male Big & Tall.  I loved the store for what it was but hated it at the same time.  Let’s see how much you can single out someone by putting the exact name of why you have to shop there right in the title and then paint the damn thing a snappy YELLOW so everybody notices…but I digress.

There is a question here I swear.  I’ve read that plateau, which I guess is kind of what this is as I’ve been hanging out in the 300 to 310 range for quite a few weeks, is a normal thing.  Does anyone else experience the, lose three gain two kind of thing?  I’m also pretty sure that I’ve read here that even if weight stays the same, you lose inches…which would explain the unexpected modeling of size 44 jeans for my wife this morning.

I guess other than the three steps forward two steps back…which is at least in the right direction, I was wondering if what I described is normal (but what is normal really?) and if it happens to anyone else?  Also, six monts out is kind of soon to stop losing weight, right?  I mean I don't really think thats whats happening but... I can tend to be a bit paranoid on occasion, I guess.  Thanks, Joe ****** Oh and by the way, thanks to everyone for putting up with all my stupid questions and off topic ramblings…and an especially big thanks to everyone *****plied about the Kayak post.  Maybe we should organize an OH field trip to the US National Whitewater Center.  It’s at 820 Hawfield Rd in Charlotte and they actually have a two hour “fla****er” guided tour that is only $20 per person.  It looks like it could be a fun way to spend a couple hours, we’d be outside getting exercise and would could all kind of hang out together.  I’m pretty sure you can rent Kayaks there, but I’ll check to be sure…and if we want to get really crazy, they have whitewater rafting too.

J  Just something to think about.

Thanks again…

Joe

A plateau is when you do not lose pounds or inches for 4 weeks or longer. Usually what you are experiencing is what people refer to as a "stall". In my 5th month out I went up and down the same few pounds the entire month... by the end of the month I had a 1lb loss.. the very next month I ended up losing 11lbs in just 2 weeks... our bodies are strange things!  From years of dieting and watching the scale I  know that I personally go up and down around 2-3lbs... since having surgery if I go up more than that its because I ate too much salt (that damn water weight will stick around for up to 4 days too!!!). Our bodies naturally go up and down around 5lbs... its different for everybody.  Another thing you can blame it on... tomorrow is the blue moon (aka full moon) :-) depending on what you believe the different phases of the moon can effect you... physically or mentally... or both! As a side note...I had a 6 month follow up with a NUT...and changes were made to my eating (got to eat more!!)... I know you were still looking for follow up care last you mentioned so I would suggest contacting your NUT in CT and see if they can do a phone followup... or contacting another patient to see what they were told at 6 months to change... or finding somebody here soon you can follow up with :-)

Hi Joe - I don't have any advise for you since I am still pre-op, but I just wanted to say "hey." My husband kayaks. Something I look forward to doing soon...for the first time. As for right now? I don't think I could squeeze my "gluteous maximus" into that damned hole! And if i did, getting out would be a real sight to behold, I am sure. Checked out your pics. What amazing progress. Keep up the good work and that scale will be moving again in no time! Happy Kayaking! Mary Ann

I agree this is probably just a stall.  If it bothers you, call your nut and see what they say.  I think you're doing great from what you post here.  My doctor says that scales are not our friends and you're seeing the difference in your clothes.  It does freak one out though when the weight loss just stalls out like that.  It did for me for my whole second month.  Let us know how it goes. Take care. Ellen

Those pounds are like children, Joe.  They want to be independant and live on their own... but they want you to pay the bills! They will hang out until they get a little braver then jump over here on my hips.  Hang in there and the stall will be over in no time! Congrats on those 44 pants.  As far as kayaking... I can't rock the boat when I'm bigger than it is! Would be fun though... It's a goal for after surgery!

Yea for you and the 44 jeans!!!!!!!   You go with your bad self!!!   As for the kayaking, well, I probably couldn't fit in that dang little boat and even if I could, I'd more than likely sink right to the bottom of the river.  And since I swim like a rock, I don't believe that would be a good thing!!!    Maybe I could jus****ch everybody else -- oh, wait I know, I could be the keeper of the personal items!!!  Hey, at least I'd be useful, right??!!!
