Hi NC friends, Im new

Hello everyone!  I am new to the board.  Last night was my first evaluation and my first support meeting. I live in Richlands, NC and hubby is a Marine at the New River Air Station.  Tricare is my insurance company and they do not go by BMI... have to be 100 lbs over and I made it by three pounds.  This was a big event for me last night because if I did not meet their standards I would of had to be a self pay and that would of been really tough.  I have been struggling with my weight ever since I got discharged from the Marines.  The bariatric coordinator last night said this board would be a great place to meet other people and do research, so far it looks fantastic.  I hope everyone has a great day! It's nice to meet you. I think that this board will be a big help. I'm glad to hear that TriCare will cover. Do you know which procedure you are going to have yet? Do you know if your provider is it going to be military or civilian? (I'm an old AF brat ... I know what Marines think of AF, but my dad served proudly and well for over 20 years :-)

My nephew is stationed at New River. How long have you been there? Do you live on or off base? Do you like the area?

Hi Barbara~ I was interested in getting banded but Tricare does NOT cover banding.  They only cover the Gastric bypass so thats what Im getting done.  My provider is civilian as the Military does NOT have a Bariatric surgeon on Camp Lejeune.  I have to drive up to Greenville to have the surgery and I wish they had a closer surgeon but they dont.  I am having all the tests done at Camp Lejeune so that will save me a little time :)  I was a active Duty Marine for 4 years at Camp Lejeune and my husband is with the Air Wing  at New River.  I have been in this area since 1990 and its very different then our home state of California.  We live off base in a small town outside of Jacksonville called Richlands. If you ask your nephew he probably knows where it is :) Thanks for writing and yes this board is great!

Hi Darcie -       Welcome. I too am pre-op. I am waiting for the final step in a long road for me. This board has been one of my greatest resources and everyone on here is great. Actually, if you read my post from 2 days ago titled "I just gotta say..." I was letting everyone know how much I appreciate them and all their support.
