OK, I know this has been discussed many times but I will ask again. My doc had me substitute a protein drink for one meal a day for two weeks prior to surgery. So I am sitting here right now trying to make it through this drink and wondering since this is 20 g. per serving and I need what like 60 g. per day...then I will need to drink three of these a day. Is it possible? any tips for a good protein drink. I made mine with some ice and crystal lite, and I used a whey protein. Ok, just share the secrets to getting this stuff down...lol. UGGGGHHHS. Thanks.  Lisa

I dont think any of us was able to get all the protein shakes down in the first few weeks, I was not able myself and worried about , not getting enough but I was fine . I learned to hate the shakes, I tried everything to get them down spent a ton of cash buying different kinds and found the good old Carnation instant breakfast ( sugar free of course ) about the only one I could take.

I bought the Magic Bullet blender and it was a life saver , I mixed ice in with the shakes and made them a thic****y eat with a spoon texture, it was ok.  After awhile I put no sugar added frozen strawberries in with the vanilla ( just a couple ) and it was pretty do able.   It is hard to get all they tell you get,  just do what you can you should be fine. I had a 2 week total liquid diet before surgery it was total hell, so far it has been the hardest part of my journey. Once you have the surgery it is much easier to do without McDonalds and all the bad foods we all ate before. Now I can eat like a normal person, if I do take a crave for a french fry , I get a small order and share with my dogs, I can eat about 10 fries and be fulfilled ( I don't do this ofter maybe once a month I treat myself to a french fry ) .....  Take care

Thanks for the advice. It is time for you to put up a new pic since your face (and body) has changed quite a bit. You look like you are doing well.  Lisa

Hi Lisa, I am no expert,  but I like the Isopure dutch chocolate.  I mix it in a blender with ice.  Also the vanilla mixed with some decaf coffee.  If you close your eyes and hold your nose you would swear you were having a latte in Star Buck's!!!!!  I am doing this 2 a day until surgery on the 29th of June.  15 years ago I did the optifast thing and only had shakes for 6 months, so this is a piece of cake for me because I do get one small meal a day. Good luck ! Margaret

I used XS brand protein shakes (35 g in 11 oz) and added two scoops of XS protein powder (12.5 g per scoop) along with some ice and water, mixed in my Magic Bullet.  Ended up being 60 g protein in about 16 oz of thick liquid.  I would sip and then put in the fridge, etc. and I knew once I finished that drink, I had all my protein for the day.   I love XS brand stuff, flavor is good, and the cost per gram of protein is 7 cents for the shake and 6 cents for the powder.  Last I checked, Atkins shakes run about 10 cents per gram of protein.

Where did you buy the XS brand drink and protein?  I haven't heard of the Magic Bullet. I am assuming it is a blender, right.....lol. Boy, I am out of the loop.

XS is a private label brand, you have to get it thru a distributer.  It can be shipped direct to your house.  And they have a 100% money back guarantee.  You can drink all 12 cans per case, then send back the empty cans (at their expense) and get everything except your shipping back.  You can go to Quxtar.com and they will connect you with a distributor in your area, or you can send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I can hook you up.  Important - I get it at wholesale, so my prices listed above are at wholesale, retail is a little more, but not much.  And I can get it for others at wholesale too if you want.  Just let me know if you need my help.

I tried about 20 different proteins before I found one that I liked.... I bought all my samples at EarthFare and ended up liking BioChems 100% Whey Protein (vanilla).... you will find one you like!  The average amount of protein a normal person can absorb at one time is approx 30g (if you google you will find many numbers but 30 pops up the most) which is why you want to keep your shakes around there... it would be nice to have 1 shake with all the protein we need but it just doesnt work that way :( I mixed my protein with light soy milk... it comes in flavors so I could mix up what I was drinking... vanilla protein with choco milk... when I got a little further out I would add a little strawberry, banana, natrual pnut butter... just a little will add a lot of flavor :-)

I am recently doing my search for protein drinks as well and found one that is fabulous.  It is organic the supplement facts are great.  It is called Jay Robb's Whey Protein in Chocolate. I got it at the Vitamin Shoppe. I mix it with six ounces of milk and sometimes put it in my Magic Bullet with some ice and milk and you have your milk shake.  It is fabulous and packet with 25 grams of protein per drink.  Here is the nutritional info: 113 Calories 0.5g Fat 25g Protein 2g Sugar I love this stuff.  I also have the vanilla and strawberry that I blend with sliced strawberries with Splenda on them.  I suggest staying away from the Tropical Punch....Definitely not good!   One thing I will say is that there are MANY protein drinks out there in the 20-25g per serving range.  Don't feel like you have to drink protein shakes all day.  Best of luck to you!!
