keeping "meats" down
I had my surgery 9 weeks ago and 95% of the time when I eat any type of meat, I end up throwing it back up. I can eat all the fruits & vegetables I want all day long, but let me put a piece of meat in my mouth and you can just about bet that I will be in the bathroom within minutes. Any suggestions on what to do. It is really a pain.
Try deli meats, fish, and make sure that any drier meats have some kind of sauce on them. A lot of people will keep some low fat or fat free gravy around to put on turkey or chicken. Chew really really well and keep the meat moist. Those are my suggestions.
I can eat fish, deli meats, and hamburger. It'**** and miss with chicken, turkey, and other cuts of beef. The main thing I find is chew well and keep it moist.
Good luck.
Ellen

If you are having a hard time tolerating something my NUT suggest waiting 2 weeks before trying again. Meat can be tough early out... I found my biggest issue was with anything dry... deli turkey I couldnt handle until further out... chicken had to be super moist... couldnt reheat any meat because it would become too dry.
If you are using ground beef... try going for one with a little more fat... the fat will keep it moist. Eventually you can move down to the lower fat ones. Ground turkey/chicken may not have enough fat in it for you this early out.
Chicken... cook it in the crock pot or in a soup... this will ensure its moistness. You may think the chicken is moist based on pre-op standard... but it may not be enough post-op. Baked/grilled/oven broiled/pan fried... Id wait until further out to try.
Have you had tried chili?? Any issues with that? That would be a good choice early out since the meat is sitting in the chili mixture and should be nice and moist. I use to put chicken breast in the crock pot with old el paso taco seasoning and some water.. then I would shread the chicken... yummy. I also did ground beef taco style with the old el paso (can you tell I love old el paso seasoning? hehe). I also made pot-roast... cooked in the crock pot for at least 8 hours with carrots, taters and onions.

don't feel too bad, i'm 5 months out and just paid $10 for one chicken leg when I went for lunch today. it just wasn't happening. chicken seems to be a problem for me, but not beef. when i was earlier out, i found that soup with meat worked pretty well because it was especially soft. don't worry you'll get the hang of it.
