Update on My Son

We were at the eye center at 7 am on Tue. He went into the OR around 9 am and was in recovery at 11 am. The surgeon said the surgery went really good. He was so brave. I stayed with him until he was put to sleep. After he was out, I was able to kiss him on his cheek and then I had to leave. I bawled like a baby when I got back out into the waiting area. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. We got home around 1 pm. He had a prescription for Tylenol 3 with Codiene (sp?). We got that filled and on the bottle (it was in liquid form) it said for him to take 5 ml every 6 hours as needed for pain. Well, his eye started hurting so I gave him 5 ml. About an hour and a half later, he was still complaining about his eye hurting. I called the hospital and they paged the eye doctor who was on call and I told her what was happeing and told her how much medicine I gave him. She told me she was gonna check the dosage and call me back. She called and told me that for his age, he was supposed to be taking 10 ml every 6 hours!!! I was pissed cuz somebody messed up my baby's dosage for his pain meds. She told me to go ahead and give him another 5 ml and in 6 hours if he is still hurting to give him the 10 ml dosage. I gave him another 5 ml and about 10 minutes after that my baby was crying because his eye hurt so bad. I couldn't do anything but cry with him. It broke my heart so bad. I finally got him to calm down and take deep breaths. He was still hurting, but he wasn't crying. About 2 hours after that, he was asleep. I was so tired that I fell asleep with him. It was so hard to go through that Tue. night. We had to be at the eye clinic at 8 am yesterday so the doctor could check his eye to see how it was doing and to take the eye patch and bandages off. His eye looks great. It is a little swollen and red but that is to be expected.. His retina is attached and he can actually see a little out of it. He has eye drops that he needs 4 times a day. That is going pretty good. He is doing really good with all this. He is in his room playing with his sister right now. Thanks for all your prayers and support!

Glad to hear you both made it through! It's just as hard on the parent as it is the child. Stay strong and he will be driving you nuts in no time.

Oh I used to hate it when my little ones had to go through things like that.  They sure can be little troopers though.  Best of luck to you both!  ~~~~Hugs, Nancy

I am glad to hear your little boy is doing well. I know it was hard on you to see your baby go through all that but it is over and he will be all better before you know it.
