I've been home a day.  I won't white wash the pain.  The morphine pump made me sick but it is all you can have until they do your swollow test.  They can give you something for nasuea.  Take it it will help with the morphine.   I know you will not feel good when you wake up.  Do your best to walk and walk and walk.  I wasn't comfortable unless I was sleeping almost straight up.  It will get better though before you leave.    You should be fine so don't stress it too much it seems like forever but it really isn't and each day is an improvement.  A small price to pay for a new life!!  Good Luck.

we were all scared before surgery. It is so normal to feel this way. being completely honest, I had very little discomfort, I thought the pain was not bad at all, not near as bad as having my ankle fused, or major back surgery. The drugs were wonderful for me I felt fine no sickness at all . I may not be the normal but I know at least 3 of us that thought it was pretty easy. I would suggest do what the doctor tells you, and walk as much as possible, read Weight Loss For Dummies Book, it will really help you understand the surgery. Get yourself fired up about being slimmer, shucks set some goals start taking " before pictures " . start a scrapbook about how you are feeling, you will look at later and feel proud of yourself. Find a support group , there is several out here. Before you know it you will be cleaning out the " closet " and buying new stuff. You will be fine, Trust in The Lord and allow the doctor to change your life. Take Care Allison

I just had my sugery June 5th and have to admit to being a scaredy cat when it comes to pain. My pain was managed with the morphine pump. I found later that I was having an allergic reaction to the morphine and asked to be switched to Dilaudid. That did the trick without the itch.  My problem with pain "management" occured when I was switched from the pump to oral. Someone dropped the ball and I ended up w/o pain meds for an extended period of time. Once, I realized I needed ask for pain meds I was given the minimum amount ....I was sort of losing it ... My DH and "Hero" went out into the hallway, got a dr and problem solved.

I'd still do it again.

Believe that you will be in the majority. You'll do great and it IS worth it. I had surgery on January 9th and I am free. So very free. Yep. It hurt. But it was manageable. I played the morphine pump like a video game. But my mind was made up before surgery and I knew I could endure anything to get my life back. And I have. Yeah. So God bless. I am praying for you. Keep your chin up. Diane B.
