Dr. Fuzz and Wake Forest BMC

So I'm looking to get the RNY surgery done by Dr. Fuzz at Wake Forest Baptist Med Center, and I was wondering if anyone else has used him, and how the whole process was. I turned in the forms Susan mailed me on Wednesday (I was already at the hospital for an endocrinologist appt so I just dropped them off with the doctor's receptionist.) How was the psych eval, along with everything else? I'm nervous, in general, but a lot of this surgery depends on if WFBMC will help me out monetarily. I'm a student, no job, living at home when I'm not at school, and when I was at the hospital in Jan 2006 for an infection emergency, afterwards their financial/charity dept paid for the majority of the bill. I know my insurance only pays out a few hundred dollars. Anyway, I'm a little off-track, but I was just wondering how everything went. Thanks!

Hi Emily, You will be very happy with the whole team that Dr. Fuzz has. Jeff Smith, the psych is great. I was very nervous the first time I met with him but only for the first few minutes. He puts you a ease and I actually enjoyed talking to him. The main thing he wants from you is to know that you know what you are undertaking be having this surgery. He comes to all the support meetings along with Susan and the nutritionist and Dr. Fuzz. The entire team is great and they do believe in after care and support. When you go back for your checkups after the surgery you will meet with the psych and nutritionist along with the Dr. I could not be happier with the care I have recieved from this team.  Best Wishes, Judy

Hi Emily!  I had surgery with Fuzz on July 6, 2004.  I love him & Susan to death.  He is a fantastic surgeon & a great person.  My process took about 6 weeks from the time that I called them to the time that I found out that I was approved by my insurance.  And less than one month after my approval, I was having surgery. It has now been 3 years & unfortunately I have had the dreaded "bounce back" weight that everyone says that you will have.  My lowest weight was 128 & for 2  years I stayed between 130 & 135.  I am now bouncing between 140 & 145.  I am working on getting back down around 130.  Some people say that I look better now than I did at 130, but personally I felt better at 130.  Plus, my clothes have gotten a little tight & I don't want to spend more money buying more clothes. I wish you lots of luck & hope that everything goes well for you!!  You have chosen a great doctor.  Keep us posted on your journey. Julie 248/142

To Julie and anyone else that used Dr. Fuzz, after you turned in the initial forms, did you call Susan? or did she call you? I turned mine in last Wednesday, and I was thinking of calling their office, but I'm not really sure...
