I had surgery on 4/16. I have not returned to work yet. What is the normal time out. I get car sick sometimes and drive or ride with a vanpool an hour each way to work and home. I want to go back but if I go this week it is back to 10 hr work days and commuting on the city bus. I do not feel that I would be up to that yet. Is this normal?

This is major, major surgery! You had your insides rearranged! People heal at different rates. The grind that you are going back to sound rough. Maybe this week is not the week to go back. I went back after 4 weeks. I have regular work days and I live 30 minutes away. I have been most fortunate. I have not any food issues or any issues at all. I am fine and feel great. I think it is best to be in a place where you can be able to function so that may mean another week or so at home. take good care Antoinette

I went back in 3 weeks. I don't do any lifting. I sit most of the day. I was very, very tired. Didn't think I was ever going to get any energy back. amy

I am taking 4-6 weeks off but I have a very sedentary job. I suggest you give it another week and see how you feel. JEnn

I went back after 4 wks and it was exactly right for me. I couldn't have made it after 3wks. I thought I was pushing 4 wks but other than readjusting to not working, I fell right into a routine and haven't had a bit of trouble. I suggest you go with your instincts. Don't push yourself too hard because you are very fragile. Your muscle and brain may be ready to go but your insides are still healing. Is it an option for you to start back part-time for a week or two? Just a thought. Whatever you do, be good to you! Karen

I went back to a desk job , with a half hour drive after 6 days, with no problems, I guess it depends on you and how well you feel.

I went back after two weeks with the caveat that I not lift anything for another two weeks. My employer was fine with that. I had the surgery lap, if you are open, you are looking at at least a month recovery usually. Go back when you are ready, I will say however, that at this point you are probably in the blah zone. A lot of us lose our energy during the 3-6 week post-op zone. Mine was gone, and I mean completely gone, for two weeks. It is coming back now and I feel great. Listen to your body, you'll know when you're ready. Take care. ~Ellen

I was out 7 weeks total. But I would have probably gone back in 5 if I had not gotten a staff infection on my arm from the bp cuff yuk! But everyone is different. I had a problem getting anything down the first 2 weeks. So I was very week. You take as long as you need. This was no simple surgery. Remember a few years ago you were cut all the way down your stomach.
