215 Now, Extra skin???
My preop weight is 215, height 5'4", wanting to know how bad is the extra skin for someone of my weight. Is anyone around my weight before they had there surgery and how much skin did you have after your goal was meet? I know this may be a silly question but if there is anything that I can do before I start losing wanted to know about it now. My surgery date is 5-22.
It varies. Loose skin is dependent on age, how much overweight you are, how many times you've gained and lost significant weight, etc. You're a fairly light weight, but I can't speak to the rest of the stuff. I'd say you'll probably have minimal skin afterwards, but you could still have some. Remember, even loose skin is better than being unhealthy.
My doctor says that because of my size, I'll have significant loose skin. He was talking plastic surgery at my two week post op visit. My attitude is that I'll cross that bridge when I get there. If I'm meant to have reconstructive surgery, then it will happen.
I read that lifting weights as you lose is somewhat helpful. Anything you can do to increase tone is good. Good luck with your surgery and let us know how it goes when you feel up to it.
Take care.

I started out at 255 at 5'3 (now weigh 150) and have some loose skin in my inner thighs and abdomen (I have also had babies though). Skin is ugly while nude, but not evident at all while dressed. I may or may not have plastic surgery done for the loose skin. The boobies are a whole other ball of wax though--they are gone! I am already planning that my bonus from 2008 will pay for a lift and enhancement..
BTW--Dr. Pirello is great. Good luck with your surgery.
There really is no answer to this question.. basically it comes down to what you can or cannot live with. I had about 100lbs to lose at the time of surgery (Im now 21 from goal)... I wouldnt say the extra skin is "horrible" but I am not happy with it. I have bad chicken wings, my stomach is still huge, my butt is a little saggy as well as my inner thighs and I have a slight turkey neck (you may not even see it unless I pointed it out). I will say I thought my body would be in much better shape than it is..I was hoping something would look "normal" after surgery so it would limit any plastic surgery I would want.
I think a big factor is how you carry your weight now... I was an apple shape... my friend who had surgery was more big all over... or evenly big? if that makes sense... her stomach was only slightly wrinkly after she lost weight with NO overhang.. she didnt have chicken wings because her arms were all over huge... but her thighs were pretty bad... lots of loose skin in the middle. For me Id say my stomach and arms are the worse and thighs arnt so bad!
Hopefully this gives you a good idea!
I started out at 260 or 265. I am now 22 months out. I weigh 95 lbs. I don't even have enough loose skin to have plastics. And I did not do any exercise at all. I was to sick to even move.......The doctor said if I had any I needed to keep it............My boobs went from a 38 c down to a kids bra. I try to find the smallest one. Good luck to ya.
