Hi Dante -
I moved here from East Hampton, NY over a year ago now. Absolutely love it! I live in Hampstead, which is right on the outside of Wilmington. Weather is great. People are great. If you live in Hampstead, the Topsail schools here are 2nd best in the state. Chapel Hill, I believe, is #1.
We chose to live near the coast because I can sacrifice alot of things, but I do need to be near the ocean. Born and raised surrounded by the water, it's in my blood. I mention that 'cuz you're on a boat in your picture. If boating, swimming, great fishing is what you love, it's worth a look.
Sending a web address that should have some helpful information on whatever you're wanting to know.
Good Luck!

Hi Dante! We live in Fort Mill, SC which is a bedroom community for Charlotte. The Fort Mill school district is one of the top in the country! We have five grandneices and grand nephews (we share a house with their parents) and two are in the schools now. They LOVE it and the teachers are doing a great job of stretching the kids. I work in southwest Charlotte, and my commute is about 13 minutes. We have lived in the Charlotte metro area for 18 years, and I highly recommend it. Jobs are pretty plentiful and crime is less than many large areas. Housing - houses in our neighborhood are three to five bedroom, twenty to thirty years old, and sell for $150,000 to $190,000 Please feel free to send me a message if you want more info. Come on down, y'all!
If all of you guys are any indication of the warmth of the people of NC then I want to move there tomorrow. Thank you Soooooo much for the responses they are very helpful. Dont forget I have been a NYer for 37 years and I still have family here, although mom and dad have both passed at young ages, so we are really thinking this over carefully. Thanks so much again. Keep em coming....
RE: Looking to get info on relocating
You are definitely getting a lot of good responses. Of course NC is near and dear to my heart, but... in my opinion, Raleigh/Durham/Cary and RTP area are one of the best places in NC to live. We have Cary the #3 safest place to live in the country, we have Wake County Schools where SAT scores are 55 points above the national average, and of course the obvious RTP where most people moving into this area are from the New England area. (Bayer moved their CropScience division here from NJ in 2005). Raleigh has city conveniences with a small town atmosphere. Only 2 hours from the beach and 3 hours from the mountains, it offers many opportunities to get away for the weekend. Not to mention, we are the Triangle...home of 3 Major College teams, the Hurricanes for the sports lover in you. I have live in many parts of NC...Charlotte, Hickory, Hendersonville, Holden Beach and Wilmington... (That is from the mountains to the coast) and Raleigh by far is home for me. Of course, this is my two cents worth, but does the research! We would embrace your family with open arms.
Much luck to you and yours...
Candice
