Doctors in Wilmington, NC
Hi Kisha,
I'm Sheila and I live in Wilmington. Are you considering RNY? My PCP here in Wilm. strongly recommended Dr Harris- he is very strict and picky about his pts- he seeks motivated, committed folks who understand the journey ahead. I wanted LapBand and he does not do that surgery. I have only heard mediocre (?sp) things about Dr Miles- it seems Dr Harris has a better reputation.
Please let me know if I can help you with anything here in Wilm. I was a physician assistant for 18 yrs, so know the ropes locally. Good luck in your journey!
Sheila
I will starting the process with Dr. Harris, I have an upcoming appointment. I believe I did contact Dr. Miles office by phone when I was searching around and they did not seem very helpful on the phone. I been hearing really great things about Dr. Harris I heard he is one of the best on the east coast. Well, I will give it a try and see. I did initially want the the lapband...but I believe I will have to go several hours to get it like Rocky Mount or RDU area.

I had my lap rny with Dr. Harris on April 17th. Dr Harris is an awesome Dr. He does have certain criteria that you have to meet but all in all, he is the best. I went with Dr Harris because I heard he was the best laprascopic dr on the East Coast. The whole experience has been wonderful. I had no pain at all (yes no pain to date). I would recommend him and his team any day.
Hi Kisha - I live in Hampstead and I am using Dr. Harris for my RNY. I have met with him and finished all that is required of me - except I need to lose 30 lbs. before he will let me take psych eval and schedule surgery. He does have alot of criteria for you to meet, but that tells me that he is thorough and looking out for your best interest for a quick recovery. I also called Dr. Miles office too before choosing Dr. Harris and also found them not so helpful. I just know you will like him right away. I am excited about upcoming surgery but having a hard time losing the last 10 of the 30 lbs he wants gone. Aaaaaaargh! All in God's perfect timing, I say. Good luck to you.

Hi Kisha,
Im from Jax too.....I initially went to see Dr. Harris because I did the research from this area and found his reputation to be the best in this area. I went to see him and attended the meeting. He was VERY professional and I felt very secure in choosing him as my doctor. However, after a year of "trying to loose weight by myself one final time", I learned of the Lapband, which I am going to try to get, and I have to go to Charlotte for the doctor I picked. If Dr. Harris did Lapband, I would have went there in a minute, not just because he's "just down the road from us", but he seemed that good to me. I've had a few friends here in town that have him for RNY and they have done really well and swear by him. Good luck on your journey!!!~~~~~ Nancy
Hey Ladies,
I am trying to find out some information about the Dietary Consult. I got a call from Allison saying that it is a fee of $200 and you are required to do 2 visits. However, I have FED BCBS and they cover all of my surgery and consults, etc. I only have to pay a $100 co-payment for the surgery. I called BCBS and they said it sounds excessive. They said I am covered for up to 4 visits as long as I don't have bulimia or anorexia and only have to pay my co-payment of $30. I am just trying to find out what you paid. If that is the case I will not be using her for my dietary consult if he will allow it. Because that is what I pay insurance for so I don't have that many out of pocket fees. If my insurance covers it; why would I pay $200, its nothing that she is going to tell me that any other dietitian or nutrionalist would not. Let me know your experience. Thanks in advance.
