Surgery week ago, April 16th Need help with foods!!
I had my surgery Monday, April 16th & I am already tired of eating grits & puddings!!! Can anyone give me some other ideas of things to eat. I hate to admit, I am picky. And putting this protein powder in all I eat is about to kill me!! LOL!! I pray this is really worth it in the end. I know there has to be other picky eaters out there who can help me.

For the first two weeks post-op all I was allowed to have was Boost. If I never see another bottle of that stuff it'll be too soon. My stomach literally turned when I thought of it just now. Anyway, I rejoiced when I was put on soft foods. I had good success with cottage cheese, yogurt, peanut butter, eggs, and well chewed cheese sticks and cubes. In fact, that's still the bulk of my diet. I have added fish and am ready to add chicken, but still I eat mostly cheese. Ohhhhh also, pintos and cheese from Taco Bell. They tasted wonderful after all the bland food I'd been eating. They have 9 grams of protein per serving which is on par with most of the other stuff, and they also have fiber which helps when you're eating mostly protein. They're higher in fat, so don't do them for every meal, but they're all right. Also, Jiff makes little 2 ounce peanut butter cups for dipping. I found them to be convenient, although I can't eat the whole thing, that stuff sits on your stomach like lead. The upside is you're not hungry for a while.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Try to stick with protein as much as possible. At around one month you should be getting 20-30 grams of protein a day, later on you should be more than double that, but for now that's a good target. My doctor won't allow grits, oatmeal, etc. They want me on almost exclusively protein for now. You'll find that each person's doctor is a little different on here, so there is a lot of information to sort through. Good luck with that and keep us posted.
Take care.

Hey Gina,
Look back over the info we got from Mary Martha. There really are some good ideas in that packet. I really love the refried beans with some shredded cheese melted in to up the protein. The Wendy's chili with some cheese added is great also. I decided I didn't want to cook and grind meat so I just got me some baby food and it is good. I like to have some of the turkey and some cottage cheese together. The turkey is rather fresh so the salt in the cottage cheese makes it about right. I had a yin for mustard and mayonnaise today so I put some in some canned tuna and it was really good. I also boiled some eggs and chopped them up good and put some mustard and mayonnaise in that and that finally satisfied that urge. I have tried at least one new thing every day since surgery and so far no problems at all. I also drink some protein drinks to make sure I get my required protein. Hope to see you at the support meeting.
Best Wishes,
Judy
congrats on the surgery. try mashed potatoes with protein powder. try soup with protein powder. blue bunny yogurt is great...you can get low carb and it is higher in protein. milk is a great way to get protein...sugar free hot chocolate mixed with milk is great. when you make soup mix with milk instead of water. keep it up. it is very worth it!!!!!it gets easier. i love tofu so that was a great thing for me. i was also allowed to eat fake browned meet mixed with stewed tomatos

Gina, Atleast you got grits and pudding--Dr Pirrello patients get protein drinks and liquids for two weeks. He says 60 grms protien, 60 oz other fluids and 60 min. of exercise. I go tomorrow to get my second stage of food. I had my surgery on the 16th also.
Good Luck and yes it is worth it. I have friends who have done this and they are so happy with the changes.
