Hi all, I was wondering what all Dr. Bauman requires for pre-op. Do you have to do the two-week liquid diet or does it depend on the person? The first surgeon I saw required that, but I haven't heard anything about that from the visits I've had at Dr. Bauman's office. My pre-op is on May 4th, but I'm just a little curious right now. Thanks, Amber

Congrats. Not all surgeons require the pre op liquid. Dr B doesn't unless your at risk of gaining alot before having surgery, which will complicate things. Your surgery is right around the corner. Please feel free to email me if you have any more questions. Jennifer

Hi Amber, As Jennifer said, Dr. Roc did not require a 2 week liquid diet. He simply told me to cut back and try to lose some before surgery to make my liver workable, easier to move around during the RNY surgery. I had no problem cutting back, cause' I had a terrible mess going on with my intestinal area, had to take some xanax for a few weeks. Read my profile and see what happened to me! It was all worth it though, and thank goodness Dr. B is so cautious. He is the BEST! One thing, if you're still drinking carbonated drinks, try to get off them. It will help you so much, that's another thing Dr. Bauman wants you to stop altogether. You won't miss them that much, I didn't. I drink my Great Value (Walmart brand) drinks all the time, and love them all! Feel free to email me with any questions, both my daughter and I went to Dr. Bauman and we both love him! Good luck! Dr. Bauman doesn't like the idea of the two week liquid diet. It leaves you in a weekend state, even if you are getting the nutrients your body is kind of freaking out on just liquids. On another note Dr. Bauman is very strict about not gaining wait. He wont do the surgery if you gain from the time of your pre-op to the day of. He also advised me to try and loose before hand, I've lost 30 lbs since Feb. and my surgery is the 25th. He is very happy...

Good Luck Amber! I just had surgery with Dr. Bauman on the 20th and I do think his pre-op diet is individualized. I had gained about 6 pounds at my pre-op visit so I got "the lecture" which was worse than the pre-op diet. I had low carb slim fast for 2 meals a day and then cut back on the last meal and that was not too bad. Before that I cut out all carbonated drinks and I did find that more difficult. I can recommend that you put your trust in Dr. Bauman, he knows his stuff! (I did think it was funny that I got this big lecture about loosing weight before surgery or he would have to cancel surgery but when I got to the hospital they did not have an obsity scale (over 350 pounds) so he did not know actually know what I weighed.
