Intestinal Problems....has anyone else had this problem?

I'm 2 1/2 years post op. I have a severe bacterial overgrowth in my small intestines. My gastroenterologist believes that I have a kink or narrowing in my intestinal track that is causing bacterial to sit there and continue to grow. This has caused me to have horrible gas with a strong odor that sticks with your clothes and all. I've been to 2 different gastro Dr's and I talked with my surgeon. They want to do exploratory surgery and go in and take all the intestines out so they can look at all of it. They are telling me that no test will show this because of the way the intestines are connected back together. My surgeon tells me that it is common to have a gas problem shortly after being post op but not this far out. I've been dealing with this for about a year now and I just can't take it any more and it has been very difficult to work with this problem. I'm just curious, have any of you had this problem? So far I have not had that problem. I pray you will find relief soon. My problem is finding things I can eat to get my protein in daily. It is a struggle every day. Blessings, Diane

I too have a narrowing problem in my intestine, however I was told mine is due to scar tissue. My symptoms sound about the same though. I can only get down water and V8 juice. I will find out what they are going to do to correct it on tuesday. I hope I won't have to have another surgery, but I'm prepared for it. I hope you will get the answers you are looking for! Kristi

My surgeon has mentioned this problem of bateria overgrowth a numbers of times in clinic ... has your doctor considered perscribing you a "Prev Pack" to kill off the bateria ... this seems to be a course of action mentioned by my docs. good luck. Shelly 3-21-06 268 / 155
