Hi, and good luck with your journey. I also have chosen the lap band, but I am using a doctor from Concord. Anyway, in addition to this North Carolina board, there is a Lapband board on this site that is helpful also. Another group is www.band2gether.net. I think you have to cut and paste that. Good luck and ask all the questions you can- I am!! lol~~~~~~~Nancy

Hey there, congrats on your decision to start this journey! I had Lap Band surgery on 02/28/07, by Dr. Paul Enochs.... I highly recommend him and he is now in the Raleigh/Cary area. He is an excellent surgeon with a great bedside manner. It definately wouldnt hurt to interview more then one doctor. I never had any issues with Franklin regional (I was scared at first), but they were great. Good luck!

Check with your employer to insure that they do not have a written exclusion clause in the policy to exclude WLS. I live in Raleigh and work for Wake County. Dr. Moran is my Doctro also. Wake County government will not cover WLS surgery.

Hi Tracey- I'm sorry to hear about your ins not covering the surgery. That is the most obsurd thing for any of the ins co's to do. All will end up paying sooo much more money on healthcare for overweight people in the long run. I think in the years ahead we will see a big shift, you know how they are always looking to save some $$$! I haven't aked my ins yet, I go through my husbands and its really good. I'm just going to go to Dr Moran's info session on Wed. and go from there. Either way if ins. pays or not, I'll have the surgery. This is something that I need and deserve for myself. How often as women do we say that - "doing it for myself". I think that is probaby why 90% of us have issues with weight, we take care of everyone else and put our needs aside. I'm not speaking for anyone else here by saying that, I know that is the case with myself. I recently turned 39 and I'm begining to realize my own mortality, scary thought for me, and I dont want to waste any more of my life not doing or going some place because of my weight. I'm ready to LIVE! Sorry for my ramble, kinda like my own pep talk! Take care!

I really want the lapband too but my insurance will only cover the RNY. I think it's so crazy that I have to do a more invasive surgery because the insurance company said so. I wanted the more slow weight loss because I don't want my co-workers to know but now I don't have a choice. I've decided to tell them after the procedure so I don't have to hear the judgements masked by concern for my well being. Jennifer
