I had surgery on March 9th and I am doing fantastic. I have lost 60 pounds and I feel great. But the hair loss has begun. From your experience, how long does the loss occur? How drastic can it get? Just when your waist line begins to reappear you go bald!! Thanks for your input. Diane B.

I can't speak from experience. However, I can tell you that you need to do what you can to make sure you're getting adequate protein. There are several good protein supplements available, but make sure it's Whey Protein Isolates, as opposed to soy. Also, I take a "Skin, hair, and nails" formula vitamin, it should have silica in it, and Biotin if it's not in the formula. They seemed to help my nails preop. I figure it can't hurt, and I've seen several long term post ops swear by them. Do your research about dosage levels and brands. I've used Purvana before and currently I'm taking Solgar. Take care and good luck. ~Ellen

60 lbs in one month? I'd SHAVE my head for those results! WOW. We talked of hair loss in a support group lately. There were some disagreements on whether it was due to protein, sudden & drastic weight loss or anesthesia. Both all who had suffered with it stated is lasted about 2-3 months and hair came back thick as ever.
