Anyone taking Meridia or Optifast? Any other suggestions

My husband Levi had his first consultation with Dr. Enoch. He weighs 466 lbs. He has to be below 400lbs before Dr. Enoch will even consider operating on him. So he has a lot to lose. Dr Enoch suggested Meridia or Optifast. Is anyone on these diets and has it worked? It looks like its expensive also. Or does anybody out there have any other advice to help him lose so he can have surgery???

Meridia is a drug... it may or may not be covered by your insurance so check that out... another drug to consider would be phentermine (it was the phen in phen-fen) its works a lot like ephedra. My only other suggestion would be to do an Atkins or South Beach type diet since you lose large amounts of weight quickly in the beginning.

Meridia , caused me to start having panic attacks, or at least I never had a problem before I started taking it , I would tell you STAY AWAY from the stuff. If he can take the Adkins diet , the weight will fall off quick. At 400 plus he could drop some serious weight fast on any plan, we all know how that first 50 comes off FAST------ Good Luck, and tell your husband to do all he can to have the surgery , it will save his life

I would avoid the Rx meds if possible. For morbidly overweight people a lot of drugs put too much stress on the heart. The atkins diet will work very well and he will lose the weight quickly if he stays true to the diet. Just make sure to stay hydrated and check his ketones to make sure he is doing well. If your ketone level gets too high it can be bad for you.

Buy the Atkins book and save your money on the RX drugs I was 330 pounds and read up and did Atkins lost 75 lbs in 5 months took me a year and a half to gain it all back, thats when I had the R N Y and I'm down 85 lbs now in 5 months But he has to stick to the Atkins program and not stray If he's a meat lover Atkins will be easy, but be sure and eat the green And drink half your weight in water ounces Also [GOOGLE] Atkins message boards for support Good Luck and come join the LOSERS
