Hi everyone! I am a 23 year old canidate for surgery. I have already had two evaluations in the doctors office, one with the PA and the other with the surgeon. I have also met with my dietician, who has given me the ok and thinks I am a good canidate also. I have an appointment with the psychologist next week. It seems like its all going so fast. Any advice so I don't get too overwhelmed?

Best advice...read everything you can get your hands on. I got a book called Before and After by Susan Marie Leach. You can get it at bariatriceating.com. I also read another book called The Thin Person within but I can't remember who wrote it or where I got it. It was recommended by my therapist. I found the first book to be equally informative. Also that same website has some good eating recipes as well as products you can try. I would also suggest trying lots and lots of protein shakes or supplements to make sure you know what is available and what you will like. When you have surgery you will have to follow a liquid diet for several weeks. Also, you should start following a diet plan similiar to the South Beach diet which is high in protein, low in sugar and low in fat. That way if you have RNY you liver will be small enough to have it laproscopically. I would cut back on carbonated caffeine drinks since you are not suppose to have those once you have the surgery at least for while anyway. This would get you to increase your water intake. Just a few suggestions. Good Luck on your Journey Amanda Stone-Secrest RNY 1/9/07 261.5/211.5

Hi Colleen, Welcome to our NC bariatric family! The best advice I can give you is to do this in your time, when you know in your heart you are ready for it. I put my surgery off until now because there were things in my personal life I wanted to accomplish first. Now as I approach my surgery date I am ready and confidant that this is what I need to do now. Read alot. Do your homework. I find comfort and answers in prayer. This may help you also. Please know I am here if you need someone to talk to. Blessings, Diane
