Protien Shakes
Stop wasting your money at GNC. They don't have anything there that I like or really works well for RNY Patients. I did however buy the stallones protein pudding there but I used regular pudding with a little protein powder and got the same results.
Dr. Lowe requires a 14 day pre-op liquid diet. CBI is low carb sugar free carnation instant breakfest. That's what he suggests you use. You drink it 8 times a day but it's not bad at all. I liked it much better than any of the protein powders except for the 100 Whey from Walmart.
Good morning from eastern NC.... I know I am going to sound foolish but I have a question.... I have seen many talk about different names of protein powders that they have gotten from Walmart.... I looked in the pharmacy section of my local Wally World.. but didn't see any of the names they have mentioned.... Where else should I look? Any help would be helpful for this lost and person... lol
Earthfare off Johnson and 485 sells protein samples... they run $1.50-$2... many brands and flavors! Its a good way to check all of them out... and cheap!! My fav was Biochems 100% Whey Protein... its very light! I used the vanilla and mixed it with light choco soy milk or light vanilla soy milk. I also tried the natural flavor and it was nasty and smelled horrible so Id stay away from that one!! I also like isopures drinks from GNC... the first few sips are yuck but once you keep drinking it gets better... I also keep them very cold - the fruit punch and apple melon are the best flavors in my opinion!
I used to like the CIB/Protein powders/Milk I had for my pre op diet but since my surgery I havent been able to get it down. Ive tried every combination I can think of but so far at least I cant tolerate it. Kind of stupid of me to buy 70 pounds of the stuff huh?
I agree about GNC. They dont really stock a lot of stuff for us, other than maybe the Isopure drinks.
I would love to hear someones ideas for making this more palatable.
Ok... GNC is for the goofy, scrawny man that thinks he's a body builder and I've tried what he has. Doesn't GNC stand for Generally Nasty Concoctions anyway? I've tried the Ensure, Isopure, Boost, Carnation, and Slimfast and I can't stand any of them... not just the taste but it's something about texture. More than two drinks and I gag. Can you use something like broth?
UNJURY is the protien powder my docotor is recommending for me after surgery. I have a free sample packet, which I haven't tried yet, but it's supposed to be good and not have the gritty texture of many others. There's also a flavor-free one available to mix with water and just taste like water.

Mary, if i may call you? My name is KathyS and i had the RouanY Laproscopic gastric bypass the 26th of January 2007. And now am into my 7th week, post op. Ive tried three or four different protein powders and hated them. Someone recommended the unjury protein powder, i got some , the chocolate flavor at Unjury.com and I love the taste! theres no nasty aftertaste to it. The chocolate tastes just like chocolate milk.
I just blend it up, two scoops, which one scoop equals 20 grams protein. into about 8 oz. of 2% milk and then i stick a couple of ice cubes in it and put it into the freezer for abit, take it out and drink it. It is so good. You can try it. Hope this helps. If you dont like chocolate, i think they have it in the strawberry, unflavored. KathyS
