We received an email at work this morning stating that our employer is concidering changing our ins. policy. Supposedly to save $. They say that we are a high risk group b/c we are mostly women. They will remain with BCBS no matter what plan they go with. They say it may be best if we get our own plan w/BCBS and they will increase our pay to help cover it. My concern is: by this change will BCBS deny my wls, because I will be under a new policy?

First find out if your new BCBS plan will cover WLS - your employer has to elect for it to be covered. If you have to go with an individual BCBS plan they do NOT cover WLS... it also can be very pricey! With the individual plan if youve had anything major happen in the past 5 years that rate goes sky high... I got a quote about 2 years ago and they wanted $1200 a month because I had broken my ankle in the past 5 years!! If the new plan covers WLS they cannot deny you for new coverage... if youve had continunous coverage for the past 12 months they also cannot slap you with a pre-existing clause.

Sometimes to save $ employers will elect to not have the rider for WLS. So that would be your key. She is right that if your policy still covers WLS then you will be fine. Good Luck!!!!
