Hi, just joined and was wondering if anyone has any information or has had the mini-gastric bypass? I understand that it's only done in High Point NC. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Mary and Welcome! I researched the mini and spoke to my PCP before deciding on the RNY. According to my PCP, with the mini, there is a high rate of bile reflux. Which she says is 10 times worse than acid reflux. I have delt with acid reflux for about 15 years, so if this caused something worse, I couldn't imagine. I am one month out as of today and would not have it any other way. What an amazing process that my body has under gone in just one short month. On the mini, hopefully you will hear back from someone on here that has had that procedure that can give more information to you. Good luck! Darla

Darla, Who was your bariatric Dr. and where did you have the procedure done? From what I'm finding out, my insurance will not pay for the mini bypass. I'm still in the beginning stages of research but really need to get on the fast track. MaryP

Mary, My surgeon was Aldolfo (Fuzz) Fernandez at NC Baptist. He and his staff are wonderful. I am just now 4 weeks out and everything they have told me would happen has been right on the money. I have Federal BCBS and they paid 100% for my surgery. I had my surgery 5 months and 2 days from the time that I started the process for approval. The thing that takes the longest in Fuzz's group is the NUT. report, but he is so busy that there is a waiting list. He only does 2 RNY's per week so that his staff is devoted to those patients (which I loved while I was in the hospital).
