I'm stuck at 32lbs. weight loss! The first week I lost 30lbs. but now it is almost week 3 weks post op and I'm just 2 more lbs down. Is it normal to get stuck so early?

Yup. Your body is adjusting to your new way of eating. It needs a week or so to rest and acclimate to it's new food supply. It will kick back into gear soon. 32 pounds in 3 weeks is awesome! Be patient, keep up your protein and water intake, and remind yourself how far you've come. Take care and keep us posted. ~Ellen

I am 3 weeks and 3 days post op and my weight loss has followed a similar path. I lost 16 pounds in the first 3 days after I got home from the hospital and then pretty much nothing for 2 1/2 weeks. My weight just wouldnt budge. In the past two days my weight loss has started back up. Im down 9 pounds in less than 2 days. I cant explain whats going on. Maybe when Im not losing weight my body is just trading water for lost fat and then every couple of weeks it purges itself of the extra water? Thats the only thing I can think of that makes any sense to me. I do find that I have more loose skin which could be indicative of more water retention... My BMR is currently about 2600 calories per day. I am walking at the YMCA and burn 450 to 500 calories on the treadmill. And Im eating 400 to 800 calories per day so the net effect is Im losing about 2700 to 2250 calories every day. This equals out to about a half pound of fat per day. All in all I am down 47 pounds since I started my pre op diet so Im down 47 pounds in 5 1/2 weeks and 24 pounds since the surgery. I really cant complain but almost all of that weight loss has come over a period of just a few days. If your like me it is very disheartening to be eating 1/5th what you used to eat and not lose weight like you think you should. Also I find Im very concerned about "making this work". WLS is the absolute last best option and to fail at this would devastate me. I know its not possible but I want to lose all the weight NOW!!! lol Try drinking more water if you are able to. I know prior to this I could easily drink 400 ounces of water a day and my body may have gotten so used to that it doesnt know how to deal with me drinking 80 ounces per day now on a good day.

I definately wouldnt call losing 32lbs in only 3 weeks stuck. Remember that your body needs time to adjust... it took time to put weight on, it takes time to take it back off. Some weeks you will lose a lot, sometimes a little and even weeks where you lose nothing. Sometimes we lose inches and not pounds... Ive had many times I didnt lose but went down a pants size - one of those strange mysteries! Just be patient... 32lbs in only 3 weeks is amazing!
