Plateau already?
My weight dropped from 324 in the hospital to the 309 to 312 range in just a matter of days after I got out. I was pretty sick those first few days and weight loss wasnt something I was really worried with.
Now Im 2 weeks and 4 days post op and I basically havent lost anything now for 2 weeks.
I started walking in earnest on Friday and I plan to walk for an hour everyday at the YMCA. My food intake is honestly very small. The most Ive managed to eat in one day so far has been about 1000 calories. Most days are about half that.
Can anybody tell me about this? Why does it happen? Is there anything I can do to get past this?
A plateau is when you do not lose pounds OR inches for 4 weeks or longer. Since the scale isnt moving have you checked your inches?? You are just a little over 2 weeks post op and have already lost a large amount of weight... your body needs time to adjust and recover from everything its going thru. There will be weeks the scale doesnt move, moves a little and moves a lot. Just be patient and it will start moving again.
I havent whipped out the tape measure but yes I think Im getting smaller at least a little. Im already the smallest Ive been in at least 3 years and Im complaining about it....lol. Just realized how stupid I sound.
Somehow I expected to be able to eat very very little and Im able to eat more than that. The truth is I average about 600 calories per day and sometimes I get in as much as 900 calories. I know thats stupid too, as I used to wolf down 10 times that.
Maybe this is just a fear that I wont be successful at this just like I was never successful with other diets...?
hi there-
i have no advise, just a word of support and encouragement as each of us has individual weight loss-- and it's never fast enough! it was my experience that a significant pre-surgical weight loss was super great for my general health and made the surgery (rny) easier for my surgeon-- but my post surgical weight loss was soooo much slower than others. my nutritionist attributes weight loss to a variety of things, including gender, original weight and amount of weight lost pre-surgery, body type, and perhaps other things i've long forgotten. i do recall being terribly depressed at about the two week mark. it's was so frustrating knowing i wasn't eating enough to keep a three year old active but nope, those darned scales would not move. just know everyone's body is different-- perhaps a call to your nutritionist would be helpful. drink as much calorie-free fluids as you can manage and know you have made fantastic progress in the past month. oh, i found that over the long run, i lost more than anticipated although it took longer-- i kept losing over a longer period of time. it was just at a slower pace than some.
take the very best of care,
alex
