Home from Surgery....

I am home now. I wish I could say everything went fine with no problems. The hospital gave me fuids containing glucose thru my IV and after several containers I went in some kind of shock. My kidneys shut down. Somewhere along the line they forgot that I am diabetic. They discovered their mistake and started me on something that would help. They took me off the glucose/Saline fluids and put me on just saline fluids and started giving me lots of insulin to bring my blood sugar down. Late Friday I started urinating again and so far it looks lik just a temporary hiccup. I wasn't nauseous at all. I've noticed my sense of smell is much stronger though. My left buttecheek is numb and I am very very sore. All in all I gained about 5 pounds in the hospital. Im pretty sore. Im so very tired, yet I can only sleep 3 to 4 hours before I have to get up and move around a little. GAS cramps...how long until theis works off?

RM, in my surgery experience, the gas pains lasted about a week an after that i felt like a new person, within a week i did not even feel like i had surgery. i hope you get to feeling better real soon. adrienne

Thank you Adrienne. I thought I would check to see if anyone had responded before I went back to bed. My surgeon wants me to get in at least 48 oz of water and 60 grams of protein every day. So far not much trouble. My problem is diarhea. How do I get my body to absorb water instead?

well congradulations and what hospital and who was your doctor. well thank the lord you are ok and they caught there mistake , there wasnt any kidney damage was there. well best wishes and congradulations

I have an appointment with my PCP on Thursday and I will insist he test me for that very thing. Ill keep you posted.
