Cheating and the liquid diet

My surgery is scheduled for the 12th of this month so I'm supposed to be doing the liquid diet but I keep cheating. I almost had this done a year ago and that doctor did not require 2 weeks of a liquid diet prior to surgery so I think I'm using that as an excuse. Hell if I could go 2 weeks on a liquid diet I wouldn't need this surgery right? Tell me I'm not the only cheater please!

NO,you are not the only cheater out there...Fortunately my doctor didnt require a 2week liquid diet BUT I belong to the Gastonia Support Group and I know a number of the people in that group had to do it and although most did pretty good at being faithful to it I know a few that werent....If you feel like cheating on it maybe you can call someone to help you through the weak moments...I kind of wish my doctor had required it...it would have made the beginning transition a little easier I think..BUT that was almost 3yrs ago now so now going back..... Good luck and congratulations on your new beginning! Tina

I am on day 12 of the liquid diet. So far Ive lost 17 pounds..... It was very hard the first few days. The liquid diet gives me diarrhea pretty bad so I guess its kind of like the pre op laxative some surgeons give you. I have had nothing but the whey protein/carnation instant breakfast drinks, chicken broth, water, and tomato juice for 12 days now. The first day I did ok but the kids had spaghetti and I slipped. Since then theyve eaten chicken pot pies so I wont be tempted. My cousin made no real attempt at the liquid diet when she had her surgery, so I know you arent the only one. If I were you however I would seriously consider telling my surgeon about this. The liquid diet is supposed to shrink your liver and clean out your intestines and if you arent following the prep your surgeon will know when he does the surgery.

I think most of us cheated some... I cheated twice. The purpose of the liquid diet is to help shrink your liver and lose some weight before surgery. My surgeon says he also requires it to give people a taste of what it will be like post-op. I disagree with the "if I could go 2 weeks on a liquid diet I wouldnt need the surgery"... its important to follow the surgeons orders. Like I said most of us cheated some but try and stick to the plan as much as possible.

I think we all did cheat a little I did once... BUT remember this surgery is life changing you must do as the doctor tells you, it is not as easy as cheating Weigh****chers... if you cheat after gastric by pass you could really get sick. So decide now if this surgery is something you can do. Good Luck and take care, we all suffered during this liquid diet ( well most of us have ) we understand how hard it is, I even passed out at work during it, you must stick with it.
