Hi Linda, I'm a patient of Dr. Kuwada's, also. I'm 6 days pre-op so am very familiar with the deal! It was not nearly as hard as I expected. I chose both regular grocery store stuff and a variety of the Protein drinks and mixes. I was scheduled a pre-op visit with Jodi, Dr. Kuwada's nutritionist a few weeks before surgery. It was a group class and the primary topic was the clear liquid diet. As far as the Protein drinks and mixes go, I sure found some I would never drink again. I also found some that tasted delicious. I would recommend buying the smallest quanitity of those possible until after surgery. You make like something now that tastes way too sweet post-op. I highly recommend getting the sugar free popsicles and fudgesicles. Lifesavors have the best popsicles, I thought. They help with the biting and chewing sensation you may miss. Also, SF pudding and jello. I used low fat Cream of Chicken soup for my 'meals'. I don't like mushroom, broccoli or anything else but you can have it on the diet. When you get home, you want be able to have any of the products with milk or that are not really clear when melted. Only water, Crystal light, decaf tea & coffee, and stuff like that. I don't recommend cheated but I did use this time to wean off caffiene and carbonated drinks. I was a Diet-Pepsi-holic. Also, I chewed gum to help the loss of chewing but we definetely can't have that for the rest of our lives! ~~small price to pay!~~ Hope this helps. Send me a message directly if I can help you with anything. I feel like we are 'surgeon sisters'!. Dr. Kuwada and Dr. Chan ROCK!!! Karen

I'm curious about the gum issue. I am WAY pre-op so might not have heard, but was wondering why gum was not allowed post-op. Does anyone know? Thanks! and good luck with your surgery!!!!

Hi Karen thank you so much for the response i kinda started my liquid diet today i had flavored water and chicken broth for lunch and i work a 10hour day so i am Starving,i am sitting her sucking on a popsicles and speaking of those i thought that we are not allowed to have any red popsicles but the only ones that i can find in the store all of them have red in them do you think that is okay. can you believe that our long journeys have finally started to come together, i feel like i have been waiting my whole life for this moment and it still has not sunk in yet that i will be a loser and that is a good think. and you are right Dr Kuwada and his staff are the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SURGERY

Hi Linda, I've never heard anything about not eating red popsicles. They are my favorite. Try eating more 'full liquid' stuff to keep you from being so hungry. Like pudding, cream of chicken soup (rather than broth), and fudgesicles. As long as they are sugar free, they are allowed. My recovery is going very well. The biggest challenge is getting in all that I'm supposed to eat/drink. But I just keep doing my best everyday and everyday it gets better! Keep in touch.

I am from Charlotte, but I am living in Germany. I have the greatest Doctor in the world, and I know dozens of people that have had the surgery here with Dr. Rudolph Weiner. I have my surgery on Feb. 14, my wife is mad about missing Valentine's day, but that is just the price I am willing to pay. I started my liquid diet today and I have read a couple of articles and talked to some post-op people. They have told me just about the same things that others have already told you. I am eating soups, drinking crystal light, and eating yogurt. I have some protein mix at home, some fruit smoothies, sf jello, and sf pudding. I am trying to make it work, but I am starving too! I just keep thinking about food and my last meal from last night. I want so bad to eat some chocolate, or grab a burger on the way home. I know you pain, but it won't last forever and that is what I hope can keep me motivated. Good luck. Rodney H.
