Post op weight gain?

I'm about 3 years post op and last year I got to 1 pound away from goal. Then I started on some heavy dosages of fertility meds and now I am left with a 65 pound weight gain. Needless, to say I am distraught. I'm working out everyday and drinking 2 liters of water, I don't eat bread or sugars and I am on a vegetable and lean protein diet. My question is: has anyone out there experienced post op weight gain? If so how did you handle it? P.S. I feel like I am at the end of my rope and I cried my eyes out yesterday to my hubby who is in the middle east because I now feel like food is my enemy even although I eat healthy. I appreciate any help or advice.

Hi Carolyn, I work for a infertility group in Raleigh, I saw your post and wanted to respond to you. If you are taking fertility meds you will have some weight gain ( and it may be more that what you want) depending on the drug you are taking. Maybe you should talk to you fertility doc to see if there is sometihg else you might be able to try ( talk to him and see what he says because every case if different). I hope that this information is somehow helpful ....Have a good evening Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, Thank you for posting. I was taking Gonal F and I talked to my doctor about the weight gain but I was basically told the weight gain is something I have to deal with if I want to continue with the meds. I've taken a break from the Gonal F and have gone on 100mg of Clomid but I'm through with that because my hubby has left for the middle east. Thank you for the information. Carolyn

Stay strong . . . you have what it takes to get that weight back off . . . you did it before . . . just go back to the basics . . I know that I am not 3 years out . . . . but based on what I have heard you are doing well . . . . if you you get the munches pick up something good . . . your pouch is still your friend . . . . go walking or something - get out of the house . . . . suck your thumb (kidding) get your hands busy . . . treat yourself with something that you like after you weigh - don't over do it . . it really sounds like you are getting back on track. Stick with it and keep us updated. The board is here for you. . . . . what ever is bad for you get it out of the house. . . keep tha****er bottle with you at all times . . . . 1 in the car, 1 at the office . . . I make sure my protein drinks are always made and my quart of green tea (metabolism booster) is already made and I my water bottles are always full as well. I found that on bad days I will skip the good stuff if they are not already made . . so when I finsh 1 I fill it back up at least before the day ends - so I have no excuse not to get in my protein, my water, and my tea. By the time I drink all of that I don't have much room for anything else . . . . so I have 1 full meal and maybe a snack throughout the day. It helps me - The majority of my calorie intake is pre-planned and that helps a lot. A lot of post-opers have your problem but they go back to the basics (like you are doing) and they plan their meals in advance. . . . . so I've heard . . . and that is what I am trying to follow. Hope it helps. You can e-mail me at anytime if you like. Phenom

Hi Phenomonal woman, Thank you for taking the time out to reply to my post. I'm drinking my water and exercising but I guess I just miss losing 17 pounds in one week like I did when I first had the surgery. What makes it hard for me is that I have no friends or family here in north carolina and now my best friend (my hubby) is in the middle east...talk about having no support. Just reading the posts from everyone made me feel like I'm not the failure I believed myself to be...my husband tells me i'm not a failure but it's a little different when I hear it from someone else...I think maybe he's biased, lol. Since my doctor was killed in Iraq, I had to see another bariatric doctor who told me to stop drinking protein shakes because I should be getting all of my protein from food. But, I cannot get in 90 grams of protein by eating foods, my pouch will not allow it. I'd really like to have a revision surgery but I was told it is more risky than the Roux-en-y. I guess I have to realize I won't see dramatic results quickly but I'm still working on it and I hope to be close to goal again. Thank you for your post. Carolyn

Hi, Yea it may be due to the meds and also after 2-3 years, weight gain happens in some folks. Sometimes, our goal weights differ from what our body says. My body had me gain about 30 pounds which put me at a size 8. I was a 2-4. So, I guess this is where my body wants to be. I don't know if this helps or not, but I feel for you!! Paula

Hi Paula, Wow, a size 2-4 is amazing and so is a 8. I'm happy for you!! My original size was 28/30 then I got to my goal size of a 14 but now I'm back up to a 16/18. I'm working hard both mentally and physically to get this additional weight off. Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to my post. Carolyn
