Does anyone here have State BC/BS? If so how much trouble, if any did you have with them? I am just starting my journey and am trying to find as many answers as I can from people who have Lived this. Again I thank those who answered my previous post. It did help calm my nerves... and beware, I will be asking questions. Thanks in Advance Becky D in Western Nc

Hey there... I am going to go with Hickory Surgical. I keep seeing things about regular bc/bs having no problems, which leads me to believe there might be a little fuss to get approved with state bc/bs. Becky D. Morganton, NC

Hello - I deal w/ BCBS of NC and State just about everyday. Here is my experenice: Lap-band they will cover but you will have to fight. RNY Gastric By-pass no problems as long as you meet the requirements. BPD-DS - your BMI has to be above 50 and again meet the requirements. Good Luck!!!! I think you will be fine.

Maybe you can give me some insight. I have blue cross options plan. I know I have to show that I have been over 40 BMI for the previous 4 of 5 years. I have records for 2004, 2005, 2006 and now it is 2007. My surgeons office is a center of excellence with BCBS. My WLS consultant through the hospital said if I had pictures for 2003 that could possibly help. I have no co-morbitites unless gerd, incontinence is included. I am having a sleep study this tuesday (hopefully that will come back positve because I know that is included as a comorbitity) My physician wrote a letter that I would be a good candidate but had no comorbities. It seems like i am on the borderline for it all. My BMI is 41.2. I would just like to hear something positive I can hold on to. Thanks, Sonia

For you weight history they are looking now for weights from 02 - 06. They don't count 07. I know it stinks. I haven't heard anything about the pictures. I would be more then happy to call and see if will acccept them. I know if you can't provide they can deny you. Let me call this week and talk to the ladies that I normally work with and see what they say about pictures. Sounds like a good idea....It can come from as many docs as it needs to. Good Luck and I will try to find the first of the week for you. Kim

Would it not be 03,04,05,06?........It would not include 02 would it? That would be the last 4 previous years would it not? What do they consider as comorbities? Would 07 not be counted til 08? What do you know about the centers of excellence? I guess I am freaking out a little bit. I guess I must just say a little prayer that the sleep test I have tuesday comes up positive.
