Medcost insurance question
Good afternoon, NC Family I hope everyone is well.
Wanted to ask a question? Does anyone have Medcost insurance and if so, how long does it usually take to be approved. My papers were sent and received on 7/13/06 and I wanted to know how long I should wait before I start calling daily to check the status.

I'm not going to be much help, I'm afraid...I have MedCost and they would not pay...specifically excluded it from the plan. I paid for it. Big bucks...but I told myself that I wouldn't hesitate to spend that much money on a car and this is a heck of a lot better than any car!!!
Good luck!

Hi Alicia,
I guess I was the exception to the Medcost rule! I had Medcost when I had my surgery and it paid well. All I paid the hospital was $1800. For the combined total of over $35,000 doctor, anthes. and hospital that wasn't bad at all. I got my approval in less than 2 weeks and no problems at all. I called my insurance benefits line before I started and they said it was covered if it was medically necessary, I had a 54 BMI and lots of comorbidities so I guess it was a walk in the park for them to approve me. I would have cost them a lot more money in the long run without the surgery! Anyway, I loved my Mecost cause' now we have Blue Cross and Blue CRAP (that's what I call it) and its lousy! My copays all went up double and it denies a lot of stuff my Medcost paid for. Oh well, at lease I got my WLS done with my good insurance. I do know some employers opt to exclude WLS covereage in the policies and if that happens no matter what insurance it is will be denied. Sometimes appeals can help but I don't know that much about it. Good luck and I hope things go smoothly for you.

Thanks Lynne, that's what the benefits person told me also. He said it take about 15 days to review in general some sooner and some later. I know 1 other person that has Medcost and they got their approval in 4 days so I guess it all depends. I love my Medcost also. When I think of all the test and Dr's I have been to in the last 3 months it is well worth my medical deductible on my paycheck. My benefits person told me for the hospital stay I would have a $250 deductible and a 10% coinsurance for the doctors. Now that's healthcare coverage.
Continued success on your journey.
