info gained from 2nd info session in moore co.
hi folks, angela d. here. i went to my 2nd info session last thurs nite at moore co. i learned a few things i would like to pass on. nutritionist julie walenta, great person. she told me that blue powerade 20 oz was for an all day drink. that scared me b/c of all the sugar it had in it. she said sip it all day. NEXT- start taste testing now. b/c when you have your surgery, it will be to late to try things. that made lots of sense to me. NEXT-PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN. take those supplements...NEXT try low carb slim fast unflavored or the vanilla one. NEXT- start taking generic centrum in small amounts now. NEXT- after surgery, tylenol will be the ONLY meds we will be able to take. NEXT- a website w/lots of info bariatriceating.com. NEXT- eat snacks as protein drinks. NEXT- NO GUM!!!! NEXT- no green tea til after 1st month. When you go to the 2nd info session, you will be given a "bible". bring that to the hospital.
I hope this helps people. let me know if you have learned anything that i can add to my list of things.

Tastes change after surgery - whatever you taste test and like now - you may not like it.
There is a sugarfree "powerade" that wal mart sells - it has electrolytes and potassium in it but no sugar - much better than drinking powerade.
Make sure the generic centrum has iron in it still.
Tylenol is not the only meds we can take - its the safest. Surgeon told me if you take something like advil once in a while it wont kill you, its taking it on a regular basis that does.
My surgeon said gum is fine as long as its normal sized piece (like the squares) and sugar free.
Snacks - my NUT said protein drinks as snacks are fine in the beginning, her and the surgeons goal is at around 8 weeks post-op you are no longer using protein drinks and getting your protein from food.
Just wanted to share some of the info I was given!!
